My child just completed his first month-long session at Mountain Camp, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the experience he had. He came home more confident, more self-aware, and noticeably more independent—qualities we know were nurtured every step of the way at camp. What stood out most was how supported he felt trying brand-new things. Whether it was stand-up paddle boarding, tubing, the ropes course, or even drama, he faced his fears and gave it all a shot because the environment made him feel safe and encouraged. As a parent, there's nothing more reassuring than knowing your child is being challenged in a way that builds them up, not breaks them down. He absolutely adored his counselors, made so many friends, and came home full of stories about the people who helped make his time so special. He’s already counting down the days until he can return next summer, and we are too. If you're looking for a place that not only entertains but truly empowers your child, Mountain Camp is it. The impact is real, and it lasts far beyond the summer.

Came here as a chaperone with the school I work for as part of our fall outdoor education experience. Of all the camp experiences I have done in my life, this was in the top three. Some of the highlights: the food service is great. The main dish is served family style and there is always a salad/breakfast bar. The nearby lake is a fantastic asset for this property as well. They offer fishing, boating, and swimming. The counsellors are fantastic, engaging, and entertaining. They did all of the work -including staying in the cabins with the children, so all the adult chaperones on our trip had to do was sit back and enjoy nature. Don, kindly took the chaperones on a boat ride around the lake and a hike in the desolation wilderness. At night we could see the Milky Way. Some areas for improvement: I would have preferred to have more designated single person bathroom spaces. During our visit only one was accessible to the chaperones. It got a bit chilly at night. I would have liked to have had covers on the windows to block the wind from coming into the cabins. Also, there was a constant humming sound that was not awful, but also wasn't pleasant. I imagine better window covers might also dampen this sound for light sleepers. Overall my school group and I had a fantastic time.

Mountain Camp at Lake Tahoe has the poorest emergency response of all camps our kids have ever visited — and we have visited a ton! At a different camp of a similar price point my older son was not feeling well and he immediately taken to see a specialist (an hour drive from the camp) to ensure he is well taken care of and to avoid disruption. At Mountain Camp at Lake Tahoe, the emergency response to illness was to call the parents at midnight and to demand a prompt pickup (on a national holiday!). Moreover, I also had to hear how the nurse had “other 4 kids in the health center, how my son’s cough was “not letting other kids sleep”, and how tired the nurse will be next morning after “watching my son all night”. I asked when my son started coughing and she said “5 minutes ago”. They are overwhelmed and don’t have the capacity to properly care for children, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending my kids there again. A different health staff I spoke to told me they never have doctors on staff and that I was lucky that she happened to be there and that she happened to be a doctor. Mountain Camp advertises on its website having medical staff on site but apparently that information is incorrect and misleading. Too bad for Mountain Camp —hopefully they will hire more medical staff to avoid disruption for campers and parents.

We love Mountain Camp! Our girls have learned the best life skills here: leadership, curiosity, kindness, community, and play! There are no screens to be seen and no one misses them. Quote from my 15 year old: “This was the best 2 weeks of my life!”

We fell in love with the location and my daughter immensely enjoyed her week-long stay. This camp is not inexpensive, but offers an exceptional experience. There's an endless assortment of activities, many of which my child just didn't have time to complete within one week. So many options in such a beautiful location with a warm, appropriately cautious (and strangely Australian weighted) staff. I highly recommend.
