McFetridge Sports Center is a Chicago Park District facility in California Park on the North Side, built around an NHL-size indoor ice arena with seating for 1,200, six indoor and four outdoor tennis courts, pickleball courts and a studio. Its youth slate is class-based rather than a traditional camp: learn-to-skate and hockey instruction for ages 4 and up, freestyle ice, synchronized skating, junior team tennis and dance, plus a Summer Skating Camp. Summer programs run mid-June through early August and register through the Chicago Park District, which also funds financial assistance for park programs.

Really disgusting service :) was asked what kind of skates I have - figure. The “figure session was full” on the studio rink. There’s no mention of caps or anything online, just the session times (which as of march 17 are wrong) and the OPTION to pre-register. I was told the sessions are separate, run concurrently, and you can only wear one type of skates on either respective session. Made no sense since I’ve been skating my entire life and never had this problem so I inquired with another staff member and was told they have this rule for the benefit of one persnickity customer, who would “kick me off” if she saw them. Uhhh what? Lol. I just put my figure skates on and skated anyway, after paying the rental fee. What a joke! Nice ice though.

I highly recommend their adult dance classes. Their program is fun and affordable. However, I wish they'd rotate class offers. For instance, instead of teaching salsa classes on Wednesday evenings every season, it'd be nice to offer it on Sunday afternoons every other season. Otherwise, I don't have any other suggestions. My experience has been great! Angélica is an awesome dance instructor! She teaches bachata, salsa, and Latin rhythms. Check out her work.

This is one of the best park districts in Chicago. There are various sports classes that you can participate in at a very good price

I absolutely LOVE Mcfetridge! I have been going there for years, I took lessons as a kid and I go for Free skate on weekends. Great affordable price. It is indoor so it is year round. I always get a couple of friends and go for an hour. There is also indoor tennis and a gym! Great and well kept facility. Yes, there is a place to sit and wait if you don't want to go on the ice.

The only year round park district skating rink. Reasonable prices. Skate rental available. Classes and public open skating. Family bathroom, snacks, recycling, music piped into the skating rink, lockers. Water fountains, playground and some tennis courts outside.
