Powered by GoogleI’ve been a student of Mr Roy for 7 months and I’ve gone from knowing nothing at violin to being very comfortable. Not only is Mr Roy an amazing teacher he makes lessons fun whilst improving my skills.
My two boys (11 and 13 years old) have been taking lessons from Roy for over a year now, and he is a wonderful teacher! They both look forward to their lessons with him and tell me that the time goes way too fast while they are there. We started with guitar for my younger son, then did a summer violin camp which motivated my older son, who is now learning the cello! The camp was great, the kids were excited to learn about the violin, enjoyed the time with Roy, and finished the week with the ability to play some simple songs. Since then, over the past year of lessons, we have participated in two recitals, and we have been so impressed with what they are able to do now with their music. Roy is a supportive encouraging teacher, who really motivates my two boys to learn, and to practice and play their instruments in an amazing way.
Roy is great teacher and super nice. He has so much patience and is great with kids. His time is very flexible. Communicates very well of what's going on. I'm so glad I was recommended to him for my child.
As an adult learner, I feel really fortunate to have found Roy as a teacher. Whenever I come to my lesson with a problem, he has multiple strategies to work around it. He has been super helpful with adjusting playing position and accommodating my physical limits. And he's gentle with corrections. (Sometimes I get home and look at my notes before I realize I've been corrected.) Having a super fun time learning music he suggests, as well as pieces I bring.
On our recent return to Maui, my wife & I rented a violin and guitar from Roy the Musical Mailman to use for a week. Roy was very clear in his rental terms, the process was easy, the price was very fair and the instruments and cases were in great condition. I especially loved the older violin I rented, and my wife felt the same way about the guitar. The violin had a beautiful mellow tone, and came with all accessories needed, including a wooden and a carbon fiber bow. If we need to rent instruments on Maui again, I will definitely contact Roy. Mahalo Roy, and thanks also for the work you're doing bringing stringed instrument instruction to the children of Maui!
