Lied Center for Performing Arts

I recently attended the NPR The Moth event presented by Nebraska Public Media at the Lied Center. While the performance itself was thought-provoking, my experience was unfortunately marred by the behavior of the ushering staff on the balcony. I am well aware of theater etiquette regarding re-entry, so when I stepped out to use the restroom, I fully intended to wait for the applause between speakers to return to my seat. After grabbing a snack, I was approached by a staff member who reminded me of the re-entry policy. I was polite and assured her I understood. The issue arose ten minutes later. As I walked toward the restroom a second time, nowhere near the theater doors, I greeted the same staff member, asking, "How is your night going?" Her response was: "Good, as long as you don't go back in." When I asked for clarification, she repeated it. I had to remind her that she had already told me once, I had already acknowledged it, and the repetition was unnecessary. While she offered a brief apology, the damage was done. My wife and I had driven in from Omaha straight from work; I was dressed professionally in a blazer and was nothing but respectful. Yet, I was made to feel like I was a problem or "menacing" simply for existing in the lobby. It is disappointing that in a space meant for storytelling and shared humanity, I was met with such rudeness and suspicion. It left me wondering if I would have been treated with the same "policing" tone if I looked different or belonged to a different demographic. Whether it was bias or just poor training, the "white-haired club" of workers upstairs created a cold, unwelcoming environment that ruined the feeling of what should have been a great event.

My mom who uses a wheel chair and I attended last nights performance, of Marilyn Maye. We arrived 20 minutes before the show. Seating was quite tight and hard to locate accessible seats for us. But the usher Seth worked extra hard, to find us seats to sit together, as we had planned. This was not an easy task right before show time. I appreciate all the time and extra effort Seth took, finding us the seats we paid for. Seth was very genuine and remained calm, assuring us, he would do his best, to see we were taken care of. Seth the usher, is to be commended at coming through, to see our night went just like we had planned. The show was stellar quality as the Lied always delivers. What a pleasant surprise to find this yummy restaurant with healthy options. The service, the atmosphere and the food were all great. It can be tricky to find healthy, quality meals in smaller towns but Hacienda Jalisco ticked ALL the boxes. Plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy these beautiful days. I can't think of a single thing that could be improved.

This is a really good pace for the performing arts. It is in a great location. It is wonderful structure and amenities. The staff are very nice and helpful! I saw Beetlejuice the musical here in early March 2025 and it was amazing! I highly recommend this place.

Wow, what an amazing place. We loved how the seat placement was designed. Each row has comfy padded seats and were positioned in a way that someone who is height challenged can see without struggle. One thing was one of the exits was a small standard size staircase that did cause a bottle neck but still was able to exit ahead of the mass. Highly recommend this theater to see any type of event.
