This establishment has not been welcoming to beginners hoping to try out a new hobby. The staff specifically have been very unkind to me and many people I know. As a paying customer, I am very dissatisfied in my experiences here. In particular, I have had many unfortunate instances with one of the tennis coaches, Alex. He is frequently rude and lacks manners when addressing customers. I’ve even seen him leave some children in tears after their lessons, discouraging them from furthering their tennis learning and abilities. However, he may be better with older and more experienced/skilled players, but to my knowledge he is very unkind with beginners and doesn’t take the proper time or effort to efficiently teach them (although he is decent when it comes to teaching). I would recommend to people with higher skill sets, but don’t expect a welcoming or pleasant experience from some of the staff. This is not to say this is an absolutely terrible place, but the customer service could use some work.

I have been playing pickleball at KVTA for just over 6 months. The courts are used for multiple sports, so they have different sets of boundary lines in different colors. The pickleball boundaries were a little challenging to get used to at first, but it didn't take long to learn them. The surface and equipment are great. The lighting is excellent. The pickleball clinic run by Dan Bence and Jim Hutchison is fantastic. The staff is absolutely awesome, and I have seen them go above and beyond on many occasions. They are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional.

Do not come here if you are expecting nice courts with friendly staff. My husband and I have been testing out indoor courts in the area to see where we would like to commit to a membership. We had decided on Kennebec Valley Tennis Association after I had been the day before with my little sister. I brought him with me when we went today to give the final approval before committing. When we walked in, it was a COMPLETELY different experience. It should have been a red flag to us when my husband (has a very posh/clear English accent) told the front desk that we were here for our court reservation. Although it’s an initial shock when someone in central Maine hears him for the first time, he wasn’t asked to repeat himself. Instead of politely asking him to repeat himself, the woman at the front desk just stared at him like he was crazy. She didn’t say anything and she just scowled and looked at him for a few minutes. She continued to say nothing until a man “translated” him for her. Absolutely ridiculous and beyond rude - my husband felt belittled and embarrassed due to her unwelcoming behavior. What happened next was absolutely disgusting behavior from a place that is supposed to be professional. The man who had “translated”, Alex, asked if I had been here the day before. I of course said yes and he goes “I don’t want to pick on you but I’m going to pick on you” (BIG YUCK) Instead of kindly asking that we make sure our shoes are clean accuses us ,“You and your daughter left mud all over the court yesterday. Clean your shoes.” I was wearing my sneakers that I only use on my Peloton and had only walked from the car to the court. I admit that it may have been my little sister since I didn’t ask her to bring a change before picking her up. However, there was 100% mud/dirty scuff marks on that court before we played. It is absolutely not okay nor professional to accuse someone who is spending money on your facilities - especially when your business isn’t spotless to begin with. It would have been much more professional to keep it to yourself and just say “Hey, reminder to wear clean shoes on the court!”. Seriously, do not come here if you wish to be treated respectfully. They just lost out on two gold memberships ($2400) and probably more from our friends. Disrespectful and rude staff.

Probably the nicest tennis courts in the state. We play pickleball there and are just blown away at how nice the surface and lighting is. Compared to most indoor courts this place is a step above the rest. We look forward to playing here every chance we get.
