We canceled our $1200 a year membership after they refused to allow me 3 daughters (ages 5, 8 & 10) to use the kids back floats that they have at the pool, that have always been available to use in the past. I was given 3 reason why this is: 1. Bc they only allow people who are paying for swim lessons to now use them (even though there were no swim lessons scheduled for another 2 hours) 2. Bc they don’t want them to get damaged (not really sure how you damage a foam pad on your back while on a pool ) and 3. Bc they’re “expensive”. I looked up the ones they have online and they are $8.95. Secondly, multiple times I’ve went and wanted to use the hot tub only to find it’s closed for repairs. Third, multiple times I’ve went to use the pool only to find it’s closed for a week (sometimes longer) for maintenance Fourth: My 3 children were made to get out of the pool bc a class for senior citizens was getting ready to start a class i the pool, of which there was about 7 people & the pool is huge. I called the night before and asked if the kids were able to use the pool during classes and was told “yes, that’s not a problem as their is plenty of room”. When I brought this to their attention they simply said “sorry that person misspoke”. Huge hassle to get the kids ready, in their bathing suits, drive over there, swim for 10 minutes only to be told they have to get out bc 7 senior citizens are getting ready to have a class in a gigantic pool. There was more than enough room left in the pool to swim & stay out other way. So I hope it was worth losing $1200 a year over not allowing 3 little girls who wanted to use your $8 foam back squares (that weren’t being used) to strengthen their swimming skills. Wearing the full size life jackets benifits them in no way which is precisely why those full size jackets are not used in your swim lesson classes when kids are trying to learn to swim. In order for a child to NOT have to wear a life vest, they have to pass their swim test, which is a very difficult swim test in my opinion. The child has to swim the entire length of the pool (75 feet) AND tread water for 1 minute. That’s a pretty long time for a 5-8 year old child. My daughter swam the entire length of the pool, but could only tread water for 30 seconds (which is a pretty long time to swim in 1 spot) so they failed her and said she had to wear a full coverage life vest when in the pool. Clearly if you can swim 75 feet you can swim. I think this 1 minute requirement for treading water is too long of a time, in my opinion 30 seconds would be more reasonable especially if they have just swam a pool that’s 75 feet long! I mean come on! The girl can clearly swim! Their stinginess over $8 foam swim back pads that are hoarded up in a cabinet has now cost them $1200 & what does that equal up to for a member who would have had a membership for many years to come? Just dumb. Theres about 20 of them in that cabinet & even during swim lessons they’re never ALL being used. In my opinion it’s as simple as being stingy with them and probably a way to try and get members to PAY for swim lessons rather than the members teaching their kids themselves while utilizing the foam back pads. Want to use these back pads? Nope, you can only use these if you’re paying for swim lessons through us. The excuse “we don’t have enough” doesn’t fly. But hey, if you don’t have enough $8 back pads maybe take the millions of dollars a year you guys bring in through memberships and buy some more? You could have that cabinet over flowing for under $150. Those pads are tough, so the argument “we don’t want them to get damaged” is also malarkey. You couldn’t tear one of those with your bare hands if your life depended on it! I would dare to say not a one of those senior citizens in the pool with no life vest on could even swim 30 feet, let alone 75 feet, nor could a 1 of them tread water for a minute. Lastly, this location is the same size it’s been since it was built DECADES ago with every year promises of expansions that never happen.

I love the YMCA on Shallowford Rd. It's very family oriented. I love that it's Seniors friendly. There are multiple classes available to Seniors for strengthening exercises and the gym is open for continued joint support. Seniors visit on a regular basis and I've seen friendships formed with people of the same age group with similarities as well as with other age groups.

The workers need to learn that just because you cannot see someone's disability doesn't mean they aren't disabled. This is not a safe place for agnostic/atheist people or disabled people. - I will be coming in to cancel my membership after how my disabled partner was treated by the employees today while he was there with our daughter. You cannot tell by looking at my partner, but he has a metal plate from a frontal lobe brain injury and also has PTSD. My partner sometimes has difficulty with forms, etc. and can get frustrated easily and will match moods without fully realizing it due to his disability. My partner was asking for help from an employee at the front desk and he did say the F word accidentally in a conversational manner when he realized he forgot that there is no childcare between 1 and 4 pm and another front desk employee told him to not cuss and he stopped as soon as she asked him to, and mentioned his disability, then tried to continue with the employee he was working with and yet this employee who told him to quit cussing decided to then yell at him and threaten to call the cops on him. He felt very discriminated against and that she was treating him like he was lying about being disabled. Yes my disabled partner was confused and also overstimulated also because our toddler was upset too at the time and this woman made it 100% worse. Also if you are more offended by a word even not directed at you than by the actual evil going on in the world, you are part of the problem.

Amazing place with a great community! YMCA Gym is more than just a place to work out — it feels like a second home. The gym is always clean, well-organized, and equipped with everything you need for strength training, cardio, and overall fitness. The staff is friendly, professional, and always ready to help. I really appreciate the positive atmosphere and the sense of community here — people are respectful, motivated, and supportive. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, YMCA is a perfect place to stay healthy, strong, and focused. Highly recommended!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Hamilton Place YMCA, especially their Live Strong program. From the knowledgeable trainers to the supportive group classes, every part of this program has played a major role in my healing after cancer. The staff genuinely care, the environment is encouraging, and each session helped me feel stronger—physically and emotionally. I’m deeply thankful for the positive impact it’s had on my recovery.
