Gold Crown Foundation is a Lakewood nonprofit founded in 1986 by former Denver Nugget Bill Hanzlik and business leader Ray Baker, serving more than 15,000 young people a year. It runs youth basketball camps, clinics, leagues and tournaments for boys and girls in grades 2-12 at recreational, competitive and elite levels, plus volleyball and golf, and operates the 56,000-square-foot Gold Crown Field House and Coca-Cola All-Star Park. Gold Crown Enrichment is a free drop-in program at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center in Lakewood and the Edgewater clubhouse, offering sports plus STEM and art camps, mindfulness, yoga and nutrition. The foundation subsidizes close to $900,000 in program fees each year.

★MKWorst referees I ever saw! I am a special Ed para and how my students were treated were awful. My student was agitated and escalated and the refs and employees began swearing and yelling at myself and my teacher I work for when we were standing a bit on the court. Disgusting thing to see this! WHEN MY STUDENTS ARE IN DANGER WE WILL HELP THEM. Absolutely nasty how you treated us and them. You should be ashamed
★Dave BMy son has played with Gold Crown for a number of seasons. At first, it seems like a decent option for seeing if your kid likes basketball enough to maybe become more competitive at a later age, like maybe once they get to high school. It’s affordable and they have a nice facility over on Lakewood. They even have a former Nugget with a somewhat memorable name in Bill Hazlitt. But ultimately our experience with them has been disappointing and, at times, frustrating. The coaches for the, most part, are just dads willing to volunteer, but aren’t coaches per se. Not a whole lot of skills learned over the course of a couple years. Most frustrating has been the teams they assemble. If a team has a handful of kids who are somehow reaching a height of 6’ by age 14, they’re obviously going to trounce the other teams with average size kids regardless of skill level. So if you decided to go with Gold Crown, expect to see a lot of lopsided victories. Like 44 - 6. I hope for your sake that your kid is either 6’ tall or gets on a team with a bunch of those types. Unfortunately, it will most likely be a mixed bag. Enrolling your kid with Gold Crown probably isn’t with the gamble.

★★★★AmandaThis is a fantastic place for kids’ basketball games, with multiple courts, quick easy food options, and a nice seating area out front. My only concerns are hoping they get some food items that are healthy and not just quick junk food items as well as the parking desperately needs to be expanded—over the past 4–5 years, I can only recall a few times when finding a spot was immediately available upon arrival and easy. Often, the only option is to park several blocks away and walk to the facility. Aside from that, everything else is excellent: a wonderful, family-friendly environment and facilities that kids really enjoy that also has an atheltic trainer which has come in extremely helpful a few games ago involving one of our players!!!
