DraineTrain is a basketball skills-training program run by trainer John Draine that offers skills camps for kids in grades 4-8 through a partnership with Spokane Public Schools. Sessions are one-hour weekly classes held at Ridgeview Elementary rather than a full-day camp, running in six-week blocks (Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m. for grades 4-6 and 5:30-6:30 p.m. for grades 7-8) at $125 per block. Camps are open to all Spokane Public Schools students, and scholarships are available for qualifying students.

Powered by GoogleWe’ve been using Drainetrain for my son and daughter for over 2 years and it has been the best resource for basketball training. We’ve tried 6 different training programs in town that were all good but it was draintrain that stood out for us for the results, the community, the flexibility in scheduling, and the professionalism of coach Draine. When my 12 year old son started he was still in rec league, but now he is competing at the AAU level with a club team and often plays 1 year above his grade at local tournaments. When I asked him what he thought about Drainetrain, he said this “you don’t realize that the moves he teaches are gonna to be useful, but they just come out during games naturally”. What I liked was that Drainetrain uses very specific basketball terminology to describe all the details of each move and as a result, the kids learn the terminology and this makes instruction very time efficient. Terms like “drop step”, “drop pocket”, “drag step” etc allow kids to know exactly what they need to do with a few words. We’ve met other kids, made friends through “train and play” sessions, and been connected through the online portal and plan to keep going with draintrain until the kids go to college. Even when the kids schedules were very tight, Coach Draine went the extra mile to communicate with us and try to find a time that would work for us to make sure our kids did not fall behind. Best trainer in Hooptown is not hyperbole in this case. His students ages go from as young as 3rd graders to adults playing professionally like Jake Wiley. As macho man Randy Savage would say “the cream rises to the top”. Go Drainetrain!
Amazing Experience! My daughters enjoy this training & get excited when using new skills learned here on the court. 🫶🏽
John has been working with my daughter for a little over 6 months now and her confidence has improved so much! He does an amazing job and the skills he teaches are top notch. My daughter loves her time training with him and always looks forward to it every week! She has come SO far in a very short time, and works hard throughout the week practicing the skills he taught her the week before. I would highly recommend John or his son Kyle for personal training. I had no idea how much there was to basketball until we put our daughter there to help build her skillset. My husband and I both love going and watching him push our daughter to preform to her highest potential each visit, and if he doesn't feel like she's giving it her all, he tells her and encourages her to do better, which is what she needs. She's learned so much about what she's capable of and how to push herself to her full ability and it's so fun to watch what she can accomplish.
My 11 year old has been going to drainetrain for 2 years and his game has been elevated. Now his little brother goes. Definitely great training tool to help work on individual skills.
The Draine Train has done wonders for my son Jeff!@! We will Definately continue work with Kyle and John!@!@! My son Jeff is a 15 year old point guard and this training has increased his level of play drastically!@! Why stop now?? Once heavy highschool hoops slows down we will be back on the TRAIN!
