The Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center (DYPAC) is a youth theater organization at 2447 W Jefferson Ave in Trenton that involves young people ages 5 to 19 in three major productions a year and runs a Summer Fine Arts Camp. The summer program runs six weeks, three days per week, built from 45-minute class segments in dance, voice, theatre, musical theatre and art; families choose two to five classes, so a child can take a single class or stay all day. A separate teen program runs 2:30-5pm. Classes are open to children ages 5 and above.

Powered by GoogleI don’t even know where to begin to explain what DYPAC has meant to our family. The healing it has brought to our hearts—and the way it has changed how we see people and the world—is something truly special. It may sound silly to some, but this incredible community of passionate, hardworking (and unpaid) individuals has welcomed us with open arms into a space full of understanding, acceptance, and neurodivergent joy. It’s a place where my daughter can truly be herself in a way that school and much of the world simply doesn’t allow. Barb, Nathan, Pat, and Cindy—you have been absolute angels to us. You helped bring back my daughter’s confidence, her spark, and her sense of belonging. For that, I will be forever grateful. Thank you for an amazing show. We are so, so sad it’s over—but here’s to many more memories to come 🥂
DYPAC is a true gem. It truly is the very best place for youth to spend their time in our area, for so many reasons--too many to list here. May DYPAC live on and on!
My daughters just started the summer program here and loved it so much that we added an extra class. The staff is so friendly!
The productions these kids put on are first-rate amazing shows. My daughter has learned so much through her experiences and so many volunteers give up a lot of their time and do an incredible job.
The Down River Youth Performing Arts Center is a very nice venue. The lobby is well appointed and pleasant to be in. The theater is a perfect size. It provides the theatrical experience as well as enabling a close connection between the audience and the performers. The equipment is in good condition and the theater itself is attractive and interesting. I enjoyed the masks that were contained in wall cabinets around the theater. When going to this theatre take some consideration for parking. It is in a mixed residential and commercial area. There is some parking in the commercial area but you may find it more convenient to park in the neighborhood. It is an easy walk to the theater from throughout the area. I enjoyed a performance of Willy Wonka. The sound system was very good. The lighting was a pleasure. All in all it was an enjoyable evening and I am looking forward to the next event at the Down River Youth Performing Arts Center.
