I attended the summer camp here and had a disappointing experience. Many of the counselors were overly strict and often wouldn't let us play games that we were normally allowed to play. Even during free time, when everyone was behaving well and following directions, we were still told we couldn't play certain activities without a clear reason. I understand that rules are important, but free time should allow campers to have fun and enjoy themselves. The constant restrictions made the camp much less enjoyable than it could have been. I hope the YMCA reviews how free time is handled and gives campers more opportunities to participate in appropriate games and activities.

I come to this gym almost daily to lift weights and play basketball. But the basketball court is often closed off on both sides for pickleball which seems very very unfair. They have full court basketball hours a few days a week but they are very early in the morning at 5 am while the pickleball hours are later in the day and more often. There is clear favoritism shown towards pickleball overall basketball at this gym making me feel my membership is worth less than those who play pickleball. You’ll often see two people playing pickleball on one side while there are 20 people playing basketball on the other, but since pickleball is “on the schedule” the 20 people draw the short end of the stick somehow and all have to pack in together. On some occasions I have came to play basketball because the schedule said it was open but both sides are shutdown for either pickleball or an event even if the online schedule on the app says differently. These odd hours and clear favoritism shown to one group of members is making me consider going to alternative YMCAs even if the location of this one is most convenient for me.

I visited the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA today and had a nice experience. There was an issue with my membership not being valid outside my home YMCA, despite what I was told during registration at the Clarksville location. That part was frustrating and clearly a misconduct from the Clarksville YMCA. That said, the staff at Donelson-Hermitage handled the situation very professionally. Amy Anderson was especially helpful, and the other staff members I spoke with were also friendly and accommodating. They did their best to assist me despite the circumstances. The facility itself is clean and well maintained. I was especially impressed that the sauna is cleaned daily, which reflects a strong commitment to hygiene. Overall, while there was an issue with my membership setup, the staff and facility here left a positive impression.

I have been a member for years and for how expensive a membership is here, you should be able to workout past 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays, childcare should be open all day, and hours shouldn’t be so random around every holiday. They make well enough to be able to pay their employees (especially childcare) enough to make that happen. Instead, they barely pay their employees minimum wage and still ask them to “donate” part of their paycheck back to the Y. It’s a nice enough gym but don’t let the “Christian” part fool you, they are just as greedy as any other company, if not more.

The gym and staff are great for the most part. The facility itself is clean and the classes are also okay. I recently moved away from the area and needed to cancel. At first they told me i’d have to come in to cancel my membership. That’s not an option. I have called 4x to try and cancel, left a voicemail for Sandy a couple weeks ago and tried getting ahold of Amy too, no response. Thats poor business practice. I bet if I were calling about getting a membership for my family they would have called back. Unfortunately I will have to start disputing these charges due to the lack of competence and ability to cancel a recurring charge.
