Discovery Center at Stony Point

I registered (five months ahead) my 13 year old for a camp advertised for ages 12-14. Four days before it was supposed to start, I was notified that they would be “the oldest camper there that week”. The first day of camp we found out that he was not only the oldest, but the only kid in his group. He left early the first day because the camp wasn’t as advertised (he was the only one doing the activity for his specific camp) and now they’re refusing a refund. I was offered a credit, but I will not be returning. The info provided was intentionally vague and now I’m out the money for a camp that didn’t exist.

You know how they say "it takes a village"? Well, these are the exact people you want as part of your village. The Discovery Center treats our kiddo like the ball of excitement that she is and harnesses her excitement for good. They are welcoming, inclusive, and downright joyful - it's infectious! They really got to know our daughter and found out how to get her interested in learning new things. They challenged our daughter throughout the course of this summer and because of that she learned all about chess, science, etc AND she even made great friendships as well. We'll be back any chance we get.

The gem of Stony Point! Coach Rhonda and Coach K are awesome. They have instilled a ton of confidence & knowledge in my kids regarding their STEAM-related ambitions, and I couldn’t be more proud of their progress. The facility is equally as beautiful and it is a great space for learning & growth. Did I mention my kids are also learning chess from actual competitive chess teachers? Not sure if Coach Rhonda or Coach K are chess masters but they are great teachers and my kids have thoroughly enjoyed engaging them on chess strategy. I could continue but id be typing all day — the Discovery Center at Stony Point is an exceptional school of thought for kids an adults

Discovery Center has truly been a game-changer for my family. I was looking for chess classes for my three kids and was so excited to find a place that offers exactly what I was looking for. The fact that they also offer a fantastic STEAM program was just the icing on the cake. Rhonda and Kay are amazing. They are welcoming, knowledgeable, and really connect with the kids. My kids look forward to every session, and they have even joined a chess club. It’s inspiring to see them excited to learn and grow in such a positive, supportive environment. Let’s not forget their camps, which are filled with excitement and learning all in one. I highly recommend Discovery Center. It has been such a meaningful experience, and I am so glad to have found it for my kids.

Learning, Challenging, Playing, Inspiring and Fun all in one spot! For the first time in the 2nd half of my years, I am playing the game of chess!! And Enjoying It..Get out of here 😁 The 6 weeks class is really awesome and both Owners/Coaches Rhonda and Coach Kay are two truly passionate/inspirational and Way Cool educators/teachers/coaches!! When you come to the Discovery Center, creativity and possibility is all around...the kiddos have a pretty neat place to build and bring to life their innovations with their magic...and some of us big kiddos still enjoy learning how to play games 😀 Unique and A New Way for Creating, Learning and Playing Chess...It is a must to come by and check out...just a fun time every time 🪄 This review is not fluff...it is really true.
