Community Boating Program is a Port Angeles nonprofit running youth sailing camps on the city's waterfront. Little Fry (ages 6-8) is a play-focused introduction to boating through water games and hands-on activities; Opti Beginner (ages 9-12) covers rigging, tacking and jibing, safety stops and capsize recovery in stable Optimist dinghies; and Opti Intermediate/Advanced adds sail trim, boat control and introductory racing tactics, with junior sailing continuing through age 17. Twice-monthly Sunday sailing gives junior sailors extra time on the water in June, July and August, and a limited number of scholarships is available.

What a terrific program. Kudos to Director Eric and wonderful instructor Fern for an informative and inspiring sailing camp experience for our daughter. We dropped off an inquisitive kid and they gave us an enthusiastic new sailor! (from her daughter: I loved everything about the camp! If you have a kid who's interested in sailing I can't recommend it enough. it was easy to understand the coaches were great, it was super fun, the pacing for how we went over new information everyday was phenomenal and rarely felt like too much at once. I hope your kids love it as much as I did!)

We took a sail with Captain Keith and had the best time. The day was beautiful and Keith was packed with knowledge about the areas and boats we encountered. We also loved seeing the harbor seals as we walked along the docks. Highly recommend.

My kids had such a fun experience with Junior Sailing Camp. The instructors were kind, knowledgable, and friendly. They made learning how to sail enjoyable and built confidence in my kids. Highly recommend getting involved with the Community Boating Program!

Keith is an excellent instructor and the whole program is geared toward really getting you comfortable and confident on the water. You’re made to feel like a part of a community from the beginning. Best program I’ve tried yet and will definitely be signing up for more!

I took a sailing course with Captain Keith. He really loves sailing and he shares that energy with all of his students. I have been sailing ever since. The education, encouragement and inclusion provided by everyone involved has been incredible. My son joined the youth sailing program and he loves his Sunday morning sailing group as well. We need youth programs in this area and this is a great one.
