When they realized they didn't have enough athletes to fill a youth team, they didn't simply say "you didn't make the team" to allow families to find another gym. They put them in a level above their abilities and then kicked them out when they didn't perform to that level. Per the gym managers call "She would have excelled in a youth team." So instead of being disappointed but able to transfer to a gym with a youth team, we paid dues, uniforms, training gear, and months of practice for a random phone call 20 minutes before practice starts. Save yourself and your child the heartache of thinking they're not good enough and go to a gym that values their relationships with their athletes.
