Camp Wood YMCA is a historic camp (founded 1915) on 868 acres of Flint Hills prairie, forest, lake and river near Elmdale, Kansas. It offers overnight resident camp, family camp and a weekday day camp (8:00am–5:00pm) for ages 6–17, with activities including horseback riding, sailing, arts and drama, biking and aquatics.

He made a bunch of friends from different parts of the Midwest at both and enjoyed the cabin living and activities and really enjoyed the counselors. As a parent, the camp staff was very responsive as this was the first sleep-away camp he had ever been to and they were transparent with their procedures to ensure the kids are protected from any shenanigans from either other campers or staff, which was a primary parental concern. He is going again this summer to both and is looking forward to making more memories. Based on our experiences, we highly recommend these YMCA camps.
