Powered by GoogleWe brought our small RV and Tent and were in Tent Camping site 1 which had a picnic table, water and the restrooms were nearby. We went to the nearby Aubrey Oaks Alpaca Farm in the morning, (be sure to make reservations in advance), then went hiking on the Randy Bell Scenic Trail at Ray Roberts Isle du Bois State Park and then returned to camp for archery and enjoyed smores and campfire stories at the large campfire area. The campsite didn't have much in the way of shade, so consider bringing your own canopy or tarp. If you plan to go horseback riding or archery, be sure to coordinate with the host in advance and bring carrots to feed the horses. Great camping experience with the grandkids!
It's like we crossed the bridge to Terabithia. Pretty magical place. So much fun to watch the kids' imagination unbound in a way that only stars and the absences of road noises and notifications and deadlines can make way for. Worthwhile. GREAT value.
We had a great experience with April! My wife, daughter and I got to ride horses for the day and it was really enjoyable. We would like to go back and camp and spend more time out there! I got to ride Apache and it was a great horse and really enjoyable.
Love Camp Tonkawa. My girls went to the horseman class. They have learned so much from taking care of the horse to how to ride in just few hours! All the staff there are nice, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend and will go again!
Just took the family camping this Memorial Holiday weekend. Camp Tonkawa has so much to offer! Tipi camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, kayaking. and archery! Amenities available: outdoor kitchen, showers, composting toilets, picnic tables and benches. Definitely a great place to take the entire family.
