I attended boy scout camp for 3 years in the late 90's. Every time I have been since, the whole place is always an adventure.

Hidden amongst the hilly terrain of western Oklahoma lies these campgrounds and is beautiful when hiking and campsites are acceptable and the lake is amazing. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat.

A hidden gem! The lake is great to visit in the spring when the water is up and hidden falls, a waterfall at the end of the lake, is running. There are canoes you can rent. Beautiful scenery. The walk up to the outdoor Chapel is short and you can drive the path as well but it is very rocky. The Chapel is serene with a view of the lake and can be rented for weddings for less than 100. Chalk cliffs is gorgeous both from the top of the cliff and also from the view you get on the canoes. The current camp ranger, Sean, is very knowledgeable about the camp as he’s been on staff since he was a teenager. There are multiple lodging options - and the Carlock building is great to rent for events as it has a full service kitchen.

My childhood experiences in the Boy Scouts included a wonderful stay at Camp Simpson. I was there with other kids from Troop 151, at that time out of Madill, Okla. We had excellent leadership in Madill (esp. the Waymire family), and Camp Simpson was a highlight. We camped in tents, swam in the lake, admired the wood-carving abilities of troop leaders, and went for a hike that included a visit to an eagle's nest. Also, a snipe hunt.
