Camp Lookout is an overnight camp for ages 7-15 on a wooded, hilly peninsula between Lower Herring Lake and Lake Michigan, six miles south of Frankfort; there is no road access, so campers arrive by pontoon boat. Activities include swimming and sailing on both lakes, horseback riding, theater, fine arts and crafts, soccer, volleyball, adventure and wilderness programs. Campers help set the schedule at three daily program meetings, and more than 20 percent of activities are planned and led by campers. Sessions range from three days to two weeks, roughly $420 to $1,600.

Our daughter is returning for her 3rd year and absolutely loves it. I love that she loves it. It’s a great break from the screen, just wish they had a more regulated care package system so sugar is more limited. Wonderful people, wonderful kiddos.

It appears my first review was removed for unknown reasons. However, please be aware that in order to register, you must agree that your child may be placed in a cabin with another child OR ADULT of the opposite sex if he or she identifies as such. As I said previously, if you are okay with that, great. But to require it just to register is plain wrong.

My son was adamantly opposed to going to camp for years, and when we finally convinced him to give it a try, he LOVED it! When we picked him up he said it went too fast and he wanted to do a longer session next year. The camp has a really laid back vibe and allows for the kids to choose (and invent) their own activities under the guidance of the enthusiastic counselors. As one counselor said to me on the way out, "This is their camp, we are just here to facilitate." We went to Camp Lookout and it was strikingly beautiful. Set amongst shady trees in the dunes of a beautiful lake, it is the picture of a classic summer camp. When I left I was just so sad that I couldn't stay myself!

Amazing!!!! My son returned from Camp Lookout with the biggest smile telling me he wanted the same session for next year. He had an absolute blast. In his words, the counselors where awesome, the activities were fun, and the food was good.

Highly recommended, if you are looking for a beautiful camp for your teens or children. Thank goodness there is a secular / non- religious camp surrounded by the beautiful dunes and forests lakes and rivers of northern Michigan. Thoughtful, connected to nature, smart, LGBTQ+ friendly. This was important to me as a this was important to me as a parent. All of these camps… Crystalaire, Carvela, and Lookout the same philosophy. Connecting human kids with nature. This was one of the best decisions we ever made and I wish we would’ve found it when the kids were younger. But I love that they have programs right through the senior year of high school. The counselors were fantastic.
