Camp Casey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Farmington Hills that runs cost-free horseback riding programs for children and families affected by childhood cancer, sickle cell disease and other life-threatening illnesses. Rather than a residential camp, it delivers four programs: Horsey House Calls, its signature program, surprises a sick child at home with a horse on the doorstep and an afternoon of camp-style activities including riding through the neighborhood; plus Cowboy Camp Outs, Outlaw Outings and Horses in the Hallway. The organization was founded in memory of Casey Foote, a 12-year-old rider who died of bone and brain cancer in 2003, and has reached more than 20,000 participants since 2004. All programs are free.
