Powered by GoogleIf you're looking for a place that turns environmental education into something kids actually want to do, the Tybee Island 4-H Center is it. Every school, every parent, every kid should experience this place at least once. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, the campus is set up so the kids spend most of their day outside — exactly where they should be — and the whole operation runs like it's been dialed in over years of doing this right. The instructors know their material cold, and more importantly, they know how to deliver it to kids in a way that actually sticks. Marine ecology, coastal ecosystems, salt marsh life, the food web, stewardship of the world around us — they cover it all, and they do it without ever lecturing. It's hands-on, it's outside, and the kids are catching things, touching things, and seeing wildlife up close. A few staff members earned a special mention from us: Trout, Ducky, Squeaky, and Spider Monkey. Every one of them was outstanding. Patient, high-energy, and genuinely passionate about what they teach. They engaged every kid, made every lesson feel like an adventure, and treated each student like they mattered. That kind of care doesn't happen by accident — it's the culture of this place. The brilliance of the 4-H Center is that the kids don't even realize they're being taught. They're exploring the beach, wading into the marsh, examining crabs and shells and shrimp, and somewhere along the way they walk out with a real understanding of why this planet is worth protecting and what their role in it is. Learning becomes the easy, fun part. Caring about the natural world becomes second nature. If you're a school administrator, a teacher, or a parent weighing options for an outdoor education trip — stop looking. Send the kids here. Five stars without hesitation.
Give me five! 🖐🏼 Our experience at the 🍀 Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island has been absolutely incredible from start to finish. They do such an amazing job keeping the kids engaged with so many interactive activities that the students do not even realize how much they are learning throughout the day. Every activity is hands-on, exciting, educational, and so well organized. All of the counselors have been outstanding. They are patient, knowledgeable, energetic, and truly know how to connect with the kids. For our group, we spent the most time with Tiger, Squid, and Squeaky, and I honestly cannot say enough good things about them. They have done a phenomenal job enforcing the rules in a way that never makes the kids feel restricted, while also making sure they fully understand and absorb all of the information being shared. Their ability to balance structure, learning, and fun has been so impressive. Ducky also deserves a huge shoutout for bringing the absolute best energy to every activity and interaction. The excitement and enthusiasm Ducky brings truly hype the kids up and keeps them motivated, engaged, and excited for every part of the experience. This trip has been such a fun and rewarding experience, not only from a chaperone’s perspective, but also through my daughter’s eyes as well. Watching the kids learn, laugh, build confidence, and create memories has been something really special. We are so thankful for the time, effort, and passion the entire Burton 4-H Center staff puts into making this such an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Our school had an amazing time at the Burton 4-H Center! The grounds and staff are all so welcoming! Especially Squid, she was so patient and knowledgeable! Our first day included a dolphin cruise and a shark dissection, day 2 brought local wildlife and a salt marsh, and on day 3 we visited Fort Pulaski. Bunkhouses are quite comfortable, and there's coffee, microwave, and a guest fridge. The meals were out of this world!! Erin and Adrin were kitchen magicians, and so kind and so generous. They even offered vanilla cold foam on our last morning! This facility has the best counselors, some of our favorites were Otter, Squid, Meat, Trout, Duck, Tiger, and Squirrel. Highly, highly recommend!
Awesome group of educators! Teaching students, high energy, and such a fun environment to foster learning and making it enjoyable. My daughter had a blast and we would definitely recommend!! Meat, Squirrel, Bambi, SpiderMonkey, Bambi, Otter, Trout, and Squeaky made the experience even more incredible for our kids. Will remember this place forever.
The 4-H Center at Tybee Island was excellent. Great number of Well-Informed staff members. Great rotation schedule. Phenomenal information was provided regarding marine life and local animals native to this area, teamwork and team building skills were taught to the children and reinforced daily through educational activities. It was a great experience overall. Spider monkey is the best.... Along with Tiger, Squirrel, Duck, Trout, Ducky, Squid, Meat, Who-day, Bandie and Erin the director.
