Bow To Stern Boating Center in Oriental has run a Junior Sailing Day Camp for kids ages 6-15 for nearly two decades. One-week sessions run Monday through Friday, roughly 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a supervised overnight on Thursday, and campers are matched by age and ability to Optimist, Laser or FJ boats. Sailors learn terminology, knot tying, sail trim, points of sail, safety, capsizing and navigation rules.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Bow To Stern directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.

If you ever wanted to learn to sail this is an amazing place to start. I have know the owners for years and they truly have the passion and knowledge to create an environment for learning and fun. They don’t skip the important details and keep safety as a highest priority. My nephew recently went to camp here and intends to return. Sailing is great but good people make it better! Highly recommend as a Captain and lifelong sailor.
I would give 6 stars if possible! Everyone I've met here is super friendly and knowledgeable. They have a solid fleet with a variety of vessels to enjoy and the quality staff to educate new and experienced sailors.
Super love this place! Mark organizes things well! I love that they can use technology and I am able to pay and sign my forms online. They do a knock out job for organizing groups like Boy Scouts. They have a merit badge counselor on staff and are familiar with how to complete merit badges. We visited a few years ago with the troop and completed the sailing merit badge. They let the boys camp out! This year my sons scout camp was canceled because of COvID so I emailed Mark and he scheduled us for the Motor Boat Merit Badge. The cost was reasonable and my son completed the merit badge in one day. When he got in the car he said “I loved it”. It was super worth it. I want to make an excuse to return! CPT scott was great with my so . They could joke and really enjoy the time while learning! Thanks! Wait, did I mention they are dog friendly. My dog also very much enjoyed the visit too!
This place is the best! We visited two years ago and I coordinated the boy s our sailing merit badge. Summer camp was canceled so my son missed out on summer merit badges. I sent an email to Bow to Stern to ask if they could accommodate my son in completing the motor boat merit badge. They have a merit badge counselor on staff! They know exactly WhT to do! They sent me a link. I paid online. We showed up and had CPT Scott as the instructor. He was super funny and completed All the instruction in a morning section. It was awesome one on one! We did take the dog and when they got to the larger boat we got a ride. It was well worth the money. Their teaching style is hands on! I can’t wait to figure out a reason why I need to return!
