The Bechtel Family Center for Ocean Education and Leadership is a four-story, 25,000-square-foot education building on Cannery Row, opened in 2019 as part of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It houses the aquarium's free education programs - learning labs with live animal displays, collaborative classrooms for visiting school groups, and teen programs such as WATCH, in which participants conduct field research and present findings. It is an aquarium facility and teen-program hub rather than a stand-alone children's summer camp; the aquarium's youth offerings are booked through its education department.

We went today on a field trip with a couple of 4th grade classes from Pacific Grove, and it was wonderful. The kids got to have fun while learning with VR goggles, listening to talks, and doing various activities. The staff were all amazing and took great care in helping the kids explore the educational and fun materials. Thanks to everyone at the Bechtel Family Center for Ocean Education and Leadership!

What’s great experience! I attended a teacher preview training at the Betchel Family Center Innovation Lab in February and It’s was a great experience! There were a wide variety of activities, and the staff were very supportive, inviting, and excited to provide us with the hands-on, fun activities. I especially enjoyed the various ways that participants could demonstrate their knowledge and apply it to real life. The arts, crafts, sewing, and meeting other teachers was an added bonus!
