Reservations are only online now, but often courts are booked and unavailable because people can book without paying and not show up. Additionally, it seems like teaching pros have preference on courts and the staff will place you next to courts with lessons with multiple people spraying balls onto your court. The tennis pros will also take over the court next to their assigned court and will act entitled to remain on the court that they didn’t pay $7 for, and try to argue with and demean the paying court customer who gets assigned to this court. If you are on court 1 or court 2, people will enter the gate to the court without regard to whether you’re in the middle of a game — staff too, so they definitely do not model best practices. Finally, they will pile all the players onto the front 4 courts, even while the back courts are empty because they’ve brushed them and the staff wants to leave early (my guess). Staff will sweep courts for USTA matches (who pay the same court rate as any other customer), but leave courts unswept for other customers. And oh yeah, they painted over the mural of the black pro tennis players. And they’re just randomly closed. No signage. City Park is open. But not ASTC. 1/23/2024: staff deliberately walked onto court 4 despite there being a whole staircase that they could have entered the area from.
