Powered by GoogleI’ve been a member here on & off for 20 years. I’m a regular & I’ve seen lots of changes both with the Y itself & with its staff. A lot of turnover in the training department. One trainer in particular Kate, I see in the office a lot, on her phone, not to be bothered. Other trainers like Taico are rude & unfriendly taking up nearly all the space in the back room when training a client. The trainers for the most part don’t seem to be friendly to the members, just to their clients. One of the friendliest staff members I’ve encountered in the workout area is Derek. With new more competitive gyms in the area, you would think the Y would be extra cognizant of its members & how trainers treat them.
3/4 stair master machines are currently inoperable (1/4 has been in the hallway for quite some time), and a certain selfish regular feels the need to use the only available stairmaster for quite literally 2 hours EVERYDAY leaning over it and watching tv on an iPad (pointless). When I asked the staff to say something to her and prioritize other members (after I tried speaking to her myself), I was told there is nothing they can do and there is no policy on time on a machine. On top of this, the bathrooms always smell and are not clean. The pool has been closed or used for swim team the few times I’ve wanted to use it. I’ve only joined for a couple months and I am most definitely cancelling.
I have been a member of various YMCAs since childhood. The Arvada Y has been my gym for 5 years but now I'm sad to say I feel I must look elsewhere for better options. Problems at Arvada: constantly broken equipment; showers, toilets and urinals inoperable for months on end. I'm not sure why these issues persist but I'm hopeful someday they can get their act together.
Clean, welcoming, and full of caring staff — this YMCA really does a good job for folks. The front desk team is always kind and helpful, and communication is usually pretty good. Admin is generally available, though scheduling outside events can be a little tricky at times. The programs and kid care feel safe and supportive, and it’s offered at a price that makes sense compared to the bigger, flashier places. Overall, it’s a solid community spot that tries hard to take care of people. Let’s be real stuff is hard people are challenging and not everyone can complain everyone. As someone told me as an old adage if you’re upset about it getting involved.
I bought a membership for me and my son. The shallow pool for kids is rarely open, and the posted schedule changes regularly. I checked the online schedule and even called ahead twice to make sure it was open but no one picks up the phone. I showed up after packing up a toddler to find that it was closed due to insufficient staffing. Once this happened a SECOND TIME I knew this was not going to work. The lifeguard on duty was very apologetic, admitted to me that this was a recurring issue, and suggested that I talk with her manager. The steam rooms are often closed and the posted HIIT room schedules aren't always accurate either so I have been kicked out of the main room I use a couple of times. I called on 6/27 to cancel the membership for 7/1 and was told I would get automatic deduction anyway because it needed to be done 6/25. I asked to just talk to someone who I could reason with as I was not getting value out of my membership and was sent to leave a voicemail that no one returned. Lo and behold I have been charged for July. Good luck!
