Art Inspired Academy, a program of the Springfield nonprofit Abilities First, offers inclusive creative-arts classes for people with disabilities ages 3 and up. Participants explore visual art, theatre and music, plus an 'Art to Market' entrepreneurship track, with the goal of building communication, motor and social skills and confidence. All supplies are provided; it is a year-round adaptive arts program serving all disabilities rather than a seasonal summer camp.

Richard White is PHENOMENAL. Great communication about the class beforehand, including needed supplies, and super friendly. Better yet, he is absolutely excellent at modifying curriculum to differentiate for all levels of learning. That's not something that comes naturally to most educators, and yet he does it seamlessly. His approach to art is social and no-stress. Many persons with divergent paths to learning feel like they "can't" do things because they have been led to believe in the past that they are "failures". Best of all his talents, Richard works personally to help individuals see their own gifts as well as maintaining a relaxed environment during class. Honestly, *I* want to take a class from him and I'd recommend him to anyone!!!! I think he'd be a marvelous instructor for anyone anywhere!!! He's so contagiously kind. He's just the sort of person from which anyone, young or old, would love to learn art! He is also a great conversationalist, which really helps insecure students come out of their shell and interact in a safe environment. The individual I know who is taking one of his classes immediately said after we were out of earshot, "He didn't laugh at me." They went on to say what a marvelous instructor he was and how he made them feel so comfortable. I believe, over time, the damage done to this individual early in life can begun to be gently unwound by the great instruction in this class. I cannot recommend Abilities First or the Art Inspired Academy highly enough. He and this whole program deserve the highest accolades.
