I had a great time at Art Box Ceramics and Canvas for their pottery wheel throwing class. I was looking for beginner-friendly pottery classes with a friend in the Greater Charlotte area, and stumbled upon this place. It’s an easy, straight shot down Providence from South Charlotte, so the commute was very reasonable on a Friday evening. The classes were led by Kristin and her colleague, who were both fantastic—knowledgeable, skilled, and genuinely passionate about pottery. What stood out most was their patience and attention to detail with each student. They knew exactly when to step in, answered questions without taking over, and really encouraged us to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process. That balance made a huge difference. I came in as a complete novice but picked things up quickly thanks to their guidance. By the end, we all walked away with a better understanding of pottery and some really nice pieces we created ourselves. After the class, we also got a tour of the larger studio space where they host painting sessions. It’s a great reflection of the local art scene—very welcoming and creative. Classes are held outdoors in small group settings (usually no more than 8 people), which keeps things personal and relaxed. Pricing is affordable, the people are great, and the overall experience was excellent. Just come with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and have fun—you’ll enjoy it. Highly recommend.

FANTASTIC fun! Took a friend for her birthday to learn how to throw pottery. Informative and entertaining. Can't say I'm a master potter after one class, but skills were learned and bowls were made! Will be coming back with the kids for some of their other cool, crafty offerings. Thanks y'all!!!

I was extremely happy to discover this place and attend a pottery wheel session yesterday at Art Box Ceramics and Canvas. I honestly never thought my hands would be steady enough to create something so beautiful on my first attempt! The entire experience felt incredibly therapeutic, and I truly felt a sense of joy while working on the wheel. The trainers, Kristin and Marie, were amazing and very supportive throughout the session. They guided us patiently while we spun the wheel, making the whole process comfortable and fun for beginners. The studio itself has such a calm and welcoming vibe, and I loved that there’s also an art gallery inside with a tea shop. One of my favorite parts is that you can come back later to paint the pieces you made — it’s optional, but such a thoughtful addition to the experience. Overall, I absolutely loved it. I’m so glad I could check pottery off my bucket list, and I will definitely be going again❤️🥰
