This is a wonderful, private, Mennonite-based retreat center in a gorgeous rural setting, including a lake with deciduous wooded areas all around. Extensive prior arrangements required. I have been here with our church for two consecutive years: 2024 and 2025. As a person with limited mobility, I used only the two main buildings and the public space between them, which includes a bridge on the second level with a beautiful view of the lake and a fire pit area on the first level that is very conducive to conversation. The buildings themselves are not new and were not built with current ADA guidelines in mind. But there are at least two bedrooms, maybe more, that have been remodeled to accommodate mobility-impaired guests. These two (?) rooms have permanent, well-positioned grab bars around the bathtub/shower, levers rather than handles on the doors, and 3' pocket doors into the en suite bathroom, which contains the toilet and bath / shower. The sink is in the main sleeping area, which is a bit crowded with a double bed and two twin beds, but might be made more roomy if one bed could be removed or the twin beds could be stacked. I am not a wheelchair user, but as of 2025 I think these rooms' bathrooms have ample space for transfer, but not grab bars around the toilet. On my arrival this second year, I found two simple and portable additions to increase accessibility: a small shower chair and a plastic toilet seat riser. These were both helpful and considerate. All rooms contain two twins and one double bed, with linens, pillows, and quilts and minimally carpeted, easily cleaned floors. I think there are affordable improvements that could be made to the Centre to increase accessibility. Things may gradually improve in the coming years; I intend to try to help. In the meantime, I strongly recommend research and advance conversations with the hosts for guests with specific accessibility needs. New attendees should know: this location is relatively isolated, arrival during daylight hours is strongly advisable, the parking lot is gravel, and most outdoor activities will be enjoyable for the able-bodied of all ages but will have barriers for mobility-impaired guests. I don't remember power assists on the entrance doors. I found the indoor spaces very welcoming. The intimate, private conversations I experienced each year, together with the wonderful meals and group meeting spaces made the weekend trip well worth the effort for me. If you are not mobility impaired, there are provisions and space here for lots of great outdoor options including canoeing on the lake, hiking trails through the woods, basketball, and others. I'm not an expert on these details, but I know they were much enjoyed by members of our inter-generational group. One of the two main buildings provides lodging and a large meeting room on each of the two levels. For our retreats, we had one of these large rooms exclusively for our use. We spread puzzles, food, games, and people all over this room 24/7. There were couches, tables, chairs, a refrigerator and counter, and the freedom to make a mess. I'm not sure whether a member of our group vacuumed or we paid a cleaning fee. This building also has a nook with a coffee maker and hot water for tea. In the other main building, our group was served one large, wonderful, cafeteria-style meal each of our two days, which was mid-morning and served as brunch. One floor of this building comprises a large, (volunteer?)-staffed cafeteria area, and the other is a simple, large worship space with ample chairs and tables and an audio system. We were blessed with an amazing sunset our first morning there this year, 2025. I have attached six still photos from the video I took, along with a 30 second clip that isn't visually interesting but has amazing audio; I hope you can access it. The birds were going crazy that morning! 👍 Many thanks to all of the donors and volunteers that have made this space what it is. Highly recommended.

I’m leaving this review after a very disappointing visit this past weekend (Sept 20–21, 2025). My lasagna arrived with a piece of plastic embedded in the noodles and a hair on the plate. Finding one contaminant is bad enough; finding two in the same dish is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety in the kitchen. It completely ruined our meal and our evening. Quality control and basic hygiene standards were clearly not followed. I expect better from any establishment serving hot food to paying guests. I also was sitting at a table where I could see inside the kitchen. The what I assume head cook was NEVER using proper hand coverings when touching certain things. Not sure how a business with a kitchen serving guests is OK with this. I would like management to address how this happened and what corrective steps are being taken (glove use, hair restraints, plate checks) so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Until then, I cannot recommend this restaurant and won’t be returning.

Went here for a weekend to assist the kids for the AU seminary staff retreat. Location view and camp facilities are conducive for retreats. The food are so good! Meals are filling and good variety. Staff are friendly and helpful. The cabin my partner and I stayed at is kinda cold, needs fixing of the heating.
