Seattle SCORES (formerly America SCORES Seattle) is a nonprofit that partners with Title I elementary schools across South Seattle to run free after-school and summer programming combining soccer, poetry and service-learning. Roughly 400 students take part; teachers from the partner schools serve as the soccer and writing coaches, and students write and perform poetry and plan community-service projects alongside play on the field. The program is free to families and provides transportation, healthy snacks and all equipment to remove barriers to participation. It has operated in Seattle since 2002 as part of the national America SCORES network.
