I visited this camp back in 2013 while coming up with my mom and some other close family friends to pick up our sisters at this camp. Honestly, this was the strangest camp I’ve ever seen… Not only is it out in the middle of nowhere as in you have to take a ferry to get to it, but the camp definitely looks and feels like a cult! There is a strict dress code where the girls can’t wear pants and can only wear skirts as if jeans are “extremely immodest”. Not to mention the girls have to have “swim dresses” to go swimming in the river! The boys also have to wear their shirts tucked in with a belt. Not only that, but the strictly vegan food in the cafeteria is reported to be rather…strange. This camp hardly has any of the activities you’d expect at a summer camp, like rock climbing/challenge course or ziplines…only a simple rope swing and a bit of a place to go swimming in the river. The camp feels very old fashioned like back in the ‘50s or ‘60s. A few years later after I came here, my aunt sent my cousin to this camp and he didn’t have the best experience here. The most notable experience he had was he was in the cafeteria enjoying the food with his cabin and he had some leftover Taco Bell sauce he wanted to use, but his counselor for some reason confiscated the sauce right before my cousin could use it, saying it “wasn’t allowed.” That was one of a few experiences that led to my cousin leaving the church altogether… 😞

Young Disciple Ministries is run by a Christian family which dedicated their lives to improve and enrich other children’s lives. We have been using their published resources from them and sending our children to the Young Disciples camp for many years and it has always been a very positive experience. God bless this ministry and people involved in it!

I first came to YD in 2002 with our two youngest children. They went off to academy the next year, and I was unable to return until 2016 (as staff, without campers, since our children were all grown and on their own be then). The only summer I've missed since then was 2020 . . . because Covid prevented camp from happening. It's a real blessong to be there as staff. I would highly recommend this camp to any teen wanting to develop a closer walk with God, and to any parent who wants that experience for their teen. Deep Bible Study classes and Campfire programs for the last several years are archived on their website under "Camps." Young Disciple Ministries also has a wonderful supply of uplifting books, and a magazine especially for teens -- but the stories and Bible lessons are great for any age.

I like it here! I love it here! A home away from home! I’ve been here for 9 weeks of camp since 2006, and it holds a special place in my heart. If you have the chance, go! They always need volunteer staff, and being a camper is an incredible, life-changing experience.

This place changed my life. I went my first year as a counselor, jumping right in because my buddy said that we needed more guys counselors and YD thought I was a good fit. It was such an amazing blessing!!! It is now a firmly planted part of my year!
