Powered by GoogleCalled beforehand and told the lady on the phone I was bringing my (autistic) children to swim, she gave me the hours and was very nice. I asked how the deep pool was and she said 12 feet. KNOWING I WAS BRINGING MY CHILDREN and I wasn’t told anything else. Ok great 12 feet is awesome for them to swim with their arm floats. Mind you I'm bringing my children specifically for my son’s birthday. Get there and the lifeguard- some young kid- said no kids in the deep end of the pool. What the heck. Why wasn’t I told this? Ok whatever. Go to the shallow end and my son is crying because he’s cold so I get out to put him in the hot tub to warm him up. Little girl yells MAAM NO KIDS IN THE HOT TUB. Like damn can we do anything? We just decide to leave. My boyfriend goes back in after a second of us in the locker room to grab my glasses I forgot and the lifeguard and her little boyfriend she was entertaining are MOCKING MY DISABLED AUTISTIC SONS CRIES!!! I will never come back. We were there for maybe ten minutes and im so glad they forgot to charge us to swim. Do not go here! Just a bunch of stuck up jerks!
Overall, the facility is nice and kept up well. I’d rather be with YMCA over regular gyms. I have only been a member for a few days. Unfortunately, last night the first bathroom stall in the women’s locker room was filthy and required immediate action because someone obviously had an accident. Thinking about what I saw, makes me want to vomit. There should have been an out of order sign on the door. It was a little after 515pm when I got there and there were no towels available for use when I went to shower, attend a pool class, and utilize the sauna. Right before 8pm, my pin to access the massage chair did not work so I tried calling the front desk several times for assistance so that I would not lose my place and no one answered the phone. I saw an employee pass by while I was attempting to punch in my pin and I called him for assistance, but was completely ignored after he looked directly at me. When I went to the front desk to get help with my pin, an employee came to assist me. After trouble shooting the issue, the employee decided to take my membership card with him to the front desk, but I wanted to detach my membership card from my personal set of keys first. He became rude and impatient with an attitude toward me all because I wouldn’t let him take my personal keys with him to the front desk. I was appalled. He did not need my personal keys to fix the issue. All he needed was my membership card, but he took it personally and snapped an attitude with me saying that he wasn’t going to steal my car. His behavior was out of line and unacceptable. We don’t know each other, why would I want him to take my whole key set to the front desk. All he needed was my membership card with the chair access pin written on it. When I go to a mechanic I do the same thing. Only give them the key that they need. I trusted that the employee was going to fix the issue with my pin access, but there was absolutely no reason for him to take my entire key set or behave unprofessionally towards me, a brand new member or any member for that matter. I am not from Abilene and I don’t know this employee personally, but I did not deserve to be treated that way as if I was someone he knew from the block. Hopefully this feedback encourages and motivates him as an employee to improve his customer service skills because he is clearly lacking. I expect to be treated with dignity and respect as well as professionally by the staff members. Please, check yourself and get it together. I just ask that you “PUT SOME RESPECT ON MY NAME!”, in my Birdman voice. This is an honest review and true account on my experience here at the Abilene YMCA. Hope you appreciate the feedback. I really appreciate having access to the high quality massage chairs, sauna, and pool. I also really like having access to all of the many different classes that they offer, private dress rooms, clean towels, although sometimes they are noticeably dingy. I think for the price I get a pretty good deal overall. There’s also the option of paying for after hours access to gym equipment only in which you are issued an after hours access fob key. It was interesting to learn about the history behind the Young Men’s Christian Association aka YMCA. I was never aware or even curious about what it stood for, but it’s cool to know that the name aligns with their cultural and organizational company values. I didn’t even realize that the Y has always been considered as a nonprofit organization. Love, Light, Peace, Blessings, Community No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
All qualities of a normal gym. This is a great gym for parents That have kids. You can get your workout in while your kids run around. Only problem is the hours not every gym needs to co-exist as a daycare some people just go to the gym. Being open more often or having the one small room in front open late or 24/7 would be an excellent compromise for the members that just want to go to the gym.
This facility is very clean and well maintained. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The fitness area has the latest and greatest equipment. Family friendly environment which is also a great place to get your workout on if you are single. I am really impressed with this Y. I wish me and my family had joined years ago.
Visited for indoor swiming pool. This place is beyond expectation. It's family sport center. So clean, complete, very well organize. So love with this place.
