Yampatika
Private
Yampatika is a Steamboat Springs environmental-education nonprofit that runs week-long, themed nature day camps for children ages 5-15 out of Legacy Ranch. Campers explore the Yampa Valley through wildlife, tracking, watershed, and fire-ecology themes, with field trips, citizen science, and some overnight adventures. About 20% of campers receive scholarships to reduce financial barriers.

Powered by GoogleWe had a wonderful private naturalist-guided snowshoe tour with Hailey and could not recommend it more highly. She was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the mountains to life with engaging stories about local wildlife, history, and ecology. Hailey’s professionalism, enthusiasm, and depth of expertise made this both an educational and memorable experience. A fantastic option for anyone looking to explore the area!
Really enjoyed our walk, however the Yampatika website uses a system from Active Advantage that unless you are very careful enrolls you in an annual $99.99 subscription. Yampatika is aware of this and the negative experience it causes for it's users but still continues to use this system.
Our snowshoe adventure with Karen was absolutely wonderful. I think everyone who visits Steamboat should do this. You will leave with gorgeous photos and a new appreciation for the world around you!
We were lucky enough to do a full moon snowshoe hike at Steamboat with naturalist Hailey of Yampatika and biologist Jeremiah from the Forest Service. It was our first snowshoe experience and we were shown how to wear and use the snowshoes. We did a moderate ascent up a green run and some off piste searching making for a fun post ski workout. We learned so much about the area, fauna and animals from our friendly guides. Jeremiah is doing research on owls and we witnessed his observations, knowledge and owls calls. We plan on doing this again on our next trip. Thanks for a wonderful initiation into snowshoe and the area.
My husband and I participated in the Emerald Mountain snowshoe tour with Karen as our guide/enthusiast. The views were spectacular and we both truly enjoyed the whole experience. Karen was so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! We can’t wait to come back to Steamboat and do some more adventuring. Highly recommend this tour!!
