We attended Beachfest Volleyball tournament this past weekend. The restrictions on what the athletes can bring in are ridiculous. One water bottle and no food at all. The concessions are junk food and what I would describe as stadium food: fried options, popcorn, ice cream etc. There were no healthy options at all. Spectators couldn’t bring in a water bottle at all. Parking was free so that’s a bonus but other than that the food restrictions really angered a lot of our families from our team. We all spent $ at the facility in one way or another but having the option taken from us like it’s a maximum security facility was alarming.

We are here for a volleyball tournament over Mother’s Day weekend. Here are some things your club should know before you ever sign up for a tournament being hosted here: 1. You may not be anywhere near your child. You must remain on another level of the building. Injury to assess? No can do. We ALWAYS form a parent line to slap hands with our girls and encourage them before and after a match. Ridiculous that we can’t do that here. It’s a no-mothers-allowed Mother’s Day in this dump. 2. You may not bring a bag larger than 5” x 7” so if you have a nice camera (which you NEED with a pretty powerful zoom feature due to being seated FAR from your kid), no way. Grandma want to bring her knitting for the work/break sessions? Nope, her bag is too big with all that yarn in it. 3. You may not bring your EMPTY water bottle in to fill at the water fountain or even to pour your venue purchased drink into to keep it colder longer. 4. Any sustenance or hydration, regardless of dietary restrictions, must be purchased at…get this…a concession stand. The athlete-fueling nutrition gold standard concession stand fare of champions. And mud water coffee at 7:30am. And the real fun part of that is the people who work there tell you this WHILE THEY ARE SIPPING THEIR STARBUCKS AND DUNKIN COFFEES!! When asked why they get to bring theirs in and we can’t, they first try to hide it and when they can’t, they say, “Well, because we work here.” Well keep that in the break room, then! Don’t flaunt it in front of all of us trying to choke down this powdered creamer stuff from the concession stand. 5. Once you are relegated outdoors to consume anything that would be considered actual food/beverage, there is zero outdoor seating or park benches or anything. There’s actually no seating inside to enjoy any of the processed “food” they’re selling, either. I’m all for rules that are designed to keep people safe but these things all seem designed to control for the sake of controlling and/or to maximize profit. The funny thing is…I generally support the venue through purchasing snacks/waters at some point but it’s no secret that people don’t want to be forced to support your business. You’d sell way more if you relied on excellent customer service to drive business. Customer service is not a thing here and it shows. Honestly…never come here! And tell your club sports teams not to register for any tournament that is hosted here.

Reflections On The 2026 FREE DENTAL CLINIC Experiences! Overview Of The Events: March 28, 2026 marked my second year participating in the FREE DENTAL CLINIC Held at the Wicomico Civic Center, sponsored by Eastern Shore Mission Of Mercy, and I say again it’s absolutely FREE! The clinic requires a significant amount of patience and good leg muscles due to prolong standing. Constant movement. Complaining was simply not an option. Volunteer Contributions & Patient Experience: It’s truly important to remember that all the dental technicians were volunteers. Some dentists may have been a bit aggressive during cleanings, fillings, select root canals etc., However, since the cost is not a factor, accept this and understand these procedures and circumstances Event Coordination and Observation: The massive movement of the attendees throughout this FREE DENTAL CLINIC was done efficiently, NATE, who served as Team Supervisor, Floor Coordinator and Communications Lead managed the overall flow very well and professionally. Recommendations For Improvement: *Accommodation for the elderly, Very elderly individuals should not be expected to stand for long periods, participate in the musical chair routine ( up and down, sit here no sit there ) or climb significant flights of stairs. The shoulder be placed in a designated area on the main floor—one section should be for them. *Number System For Main Floor: Once patients are escorted to main floor, they should receive a number. When that number is called —you will be seen by dentists. This approach minimizes line and chair manipulation! This particularly reflects on non-English speaking groups! I observed this consistently. Well that’s that. Granted, I will return *Veterans Priority: It isn’t that many of us-I believe veterans deserve consideration and should be given priority—-We Earned That

THANK YOU, TERRIFIC THERESA, SUPERB STACIE, AND MAGNIFICENT STAFF AT CIVIC CENTER: I, Pocomoke High School Class of 1985 made the best choice in choosing Wicomico Youth and Civic Center to celebrate our 40th CLASS REUNION 🎉 I must take time out to thank Tricia (Booking Admin Assistant) for her professionalism and courteous manner. She provided tremendous assistance in booking the date for our fabulous milestone event. Additionally, I am eternally grateful to Stacie (Sales Manager) for her diligence and patience. When me, and the two committee members (LaSharon and Sherri) walked in Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, we were like WOW, this is Perfect! Theresa (Event and Services Coordinator) and her staff did a spectacular job! From the elegant decor (table set up, chair covers with alternate blue & gold), the exquisite ambiance, and sensational food - hats off to your phenomenal kitchen staff; we had so much fun!!! I love the way you arranged the dance floor in the middle of the Danang room, which aligned great with our DJ. We, the PHS Class of 1985, had the best time of our lives - Glory to God!!! The evening of July 12th, Ramonia, a Security staff member, kindly introduced herself to me, explaining all necessary details; she and Dean, another Security staff member, were very helpful. Najia (Food and Services Leader) was efficient and considerate, as well as Deb, Elijah and Kevin Briddell. Mona and Sara were polite, awesome bartenders. I will forever remember all of these fantastic employees’ names. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the above-mentioned names. Please let them know my sincere gratitude for the best reunion!
