Powered by GoogleOur grandson attended Wichita Friend’s School (WFS) for 2-1/2 years ’23-’25. We were immediately impressed with the goals, values, atmosphere, and amenities of the school upon our first tour conducted by the Principal, Ms. Shelly Hoffman! They are on beautiful grounds in a light and airy building. The school is “well appointed” in every way. I use this phrase rather than saying they have ample supplies, because it is almost a home away from home for the students. In addition to this, their teachers and staff are highly trained and experienced! WFS is well aligned with our convictions. They place strong emphasis on citizenship - character and manners, and teaching the children to be respectful of one another. They help the students work through any disputes by encouraging each child to share the feelings that motivated their actions, and then help them plan out a better way to communicate constructively and solve problems with their classmates. Nothing that needs to be addressed is brushed over in hopes it will fix itself! This (among other things) fosters a cooperative, caring family environment. Each child is respected, and their input, feelings and educational success are valued. They are treated with the love, kind-hearted discipline and tolerance that each of us strives to treat our own children with! WFS does not dismiss parental concerns without finding a mutually agreeable solution. The small class size allows teachers to work with students at individual levels, and get to know their students in depth (personally and on an academic level)! At times, classes are made up of more than one grade level. I noticed that this tends to foster a nurturing and mentoring spirit in many of the upper grade children and a feeling of having older “siblings” present in the younger students. It also facilitates growth and acceleration; if those in first grade are capable of getting what their 3rd grade classmates do out of a lesson, they may! WFS is quick to notify parents of any changes in behavior or mood, or any health related concerns noticed during the school day. They are very responsive and understanding of any special circumstance happening in the lives of their students or their family members, if entrusted with this information. Our grandson was treated with Agape Love and given time to pray, meditate or sit quietly each week in the meeting hall on the grounds, which the kids take a short walk to on Wednesdays! They have STEM education, and had plenty of enrichment courses and activities in Music, Library, Godly Play, Gardening, Cooking/Baking, Sign language, and Singing/Acting. I’m sure I’m leaving some of these out, for which I apologize! WFS normally has one enrichment field trip and celebration/month! They collect charitable contributions of toys in December, and have various fund raisers. The children have more and longer recess opportunities than do the public schools, and have a family-style lunch around small tables with their classmate. There is access to refrigerators and microwaves during lunch. And there is/are snack period(s). In addition to the warm and relaxed, open and cooperative environment is protection of the students (double front doors with controlled access). And last but certainly not least is that our grandson left WFS WELL PREPARED educationally, and ahead of the game in math and reading when he entered a school system out of state in 2025!! We are forever grateful for the love and education, WFS!! A++ report card!
Our daughter loves going to elementary school here. She has just blossomed since she started last year. She comes home and can’t wait to share what she learned in the Spanish and sign language enrichments. She has adored both her teachers. We love the small class sizes and that we know she is getting an excellent education.
Wichita Friends School is so welcoming. It really feels like a family. The staff members know all the kids and the parents! I have never seen a preschool and elementary school with all tue enrichments that WFS has. They have spanish, sign language, worship, godly play, music, library, board games, baking, and P.E. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a school on the west side!
We absolutely love Wichita Friends School! Our daughter loves the enrichments that the school offers! The staff and teachers love our daughter and care for her like she’s their own! Can not recommend this school enough!
Our child used to tell us he "hated school". We have recently enrolled him at Wichita Friends School and since he started, he is excited to go to school every day. The entire faculty and staff at WFS are amazing. They're extremely welcoming, friendly, and they genuinely care for each student's education and emotional experience. Our son is a much happier boy since he started. A complete turnaround from just a few months ago. I can't recommend this school enough!
