The Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy at Sylvester Turner Park, opened in 2010 and operated jointly by MLB, the Astros and the City of Houston, provides free baseball and softball programming to boys and girls ages 7-17 in north Houston. The site has a show field seating 500 with room for 1,800 more, an auxiliary field and two little league/softball fields, plus the 5,600-square-foot Bob Watson Education Center used for after-school tutoring, SAT and ACT prep, college-admissions mentoring, sports journalism and broadcasting, groundskeeping, life-skills and leadership programs. It runs summer baseball and softball camps and Jr. RBI leagues; camp dates and daily hours are set per session.
