The Soccer Box

I spent all of my life going to sports games, between standing on the sidelines in high school with my grandfather taking pictures for the local news, refereeing all through college, and watching local sports in my adult life. I've been watching games at the soccer box for years now and I am severely disappointed in the caliber of refereeing an organization that it has fallen to over the course of the time I've been watching. It seems like every other game blatantly bad calls are being made for what I can only assume is bias reasons. I've watched one-sided calls against teams whose players are being slammed against walls purposely tripped I've even seen people throwing jabs when they think the refs can't see. Unfortunately I think if they don't clean up the caliber of the reffing this is no longer a place that I would recommend for anyone. Especially people who are worried about being injured on the field. I hope that they will take the time to tighten up quality of their refereeing this place used to be so good and I honestly hope it can get back to that one day.

Absolutely love the soccer box! Our kids have enjoyed the last two winter seasons, and can’t say enough good things about the owners! They do not accept cards at the concession stand, it’s cash only. The turf is getting a little beat up, but they are extremely busy! My only complaint is that because they are so busy the game times for our young children are often really wacky and sometimes very late at night. That makes life hard for families with young kids. I hope they open another field!

The problem here is two fold. Mainly it's the owners. They only care about money $$$. Everything else, including player safety is not important. The other problem is the refs. I understand it can be a tough job and nobody is perfect. I don't expect perfection, even referees at the highest level make mistakes. What is unacceptable is when the referees do not pay attention because they are busy flirting with the other ref or when they just stand in the middle waiting for it to be over. Teams are allowed to shove and push and nothing is called then the other team has enough of it and starts to shove back. This escalates and is never called to keep things in check and injuries start to occur. I understand soccer can be a physical sport and using your body and shoulders against players is allowed to some degree. Can't outplay the person defending you? Just stiff arm them like a football player and its ok if they fall. Get beat by an opposing player? No problem here either, just grab their arm and yank them back. The refs won't see or won't call anything, but maybe he's gonna get her number if he flirts enough. You know it's bad when the ball hits the netting and all the players stop because they know the rule, but the refs never blow a whistle or anything because they haven't noticed that everyone stopped running around for several seconds. Then they look up like "oh, uh" and blow the whistle but don't know what happened. Ridiculous. Otherwise the facility is ok. It's nothing fancy, but gets the job done.

Good place. Field is nice and the glass I easily seen through. Lots of seating. Summer is hot and winter is cold. But owners are nice and have tried to add heat and air flow. Good place to play.
