The Ripken Experience Aberdeen

My family and I had the pleasure of attending a 9U baseball tournament over the weekend of May 16. As a longtime baseball mom, I've never felt the need to leave a review for a tournament facility, but Ripken in Aberdeen truly exceeded my expectations. The staff was great, the facilities were beautiful, and the amenities were top-notch. It genuinely felt like we were getting our money's worth at this tournament. Everyone working there was very pleasant. I would like to give a special shoutout to the young man and young lady working at the Green Turtle between 5 PM and 6 PM. They went out of their way to accommodate a request I made, and I truly appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who worked this weekend. We hope to be back soon!

It is pretty cool, but in some places seems kind of run down or barren. And the teams are not not always an even match. Fields are spread apart and kind of depressing. Not many good options, and there is lots of mud and gravel. They have turf near the big stadium but it looks gross because it is all faded and muddy. Overall alright, but nothing to write home about. They rarely use scoreboards during the game and they never record balls or strikes. Very steep hills too. Store is very expensive. I don’t recommend going to the Greene turtle down the road. This is a first-class youth baseball experience! My 10-year-old grandson plays travel ball, and his fall team finished their season this year at the Ripken Experience Around The Horn Tournament. My first thoughts were simply, "Wow!" The Cal Sr. Field is built like a minor league ball field, with a grandstand, recessed dugouts, and a concourse. The other fields, shaped like real MLB fields, are astroturf, incredibly well-maintained, and an excellent experience for kids. The complex has two hotels, one of which is built to simulate the famous warehouse at the Orioles' Camden Yards in Baltimore, and there are other hotels nearby. There is plenty of parking, including handicapped spots. The hotels have a restaurant, and there are food stands on the concourse of Cal Sr's stadium. The weekend we were there, they also had food trucks on the property. Each game has an announcer, and a player of the game is selected for both the winning and losing teams. Those players receive a Ripken Experience pin. The umpires were great and really engaged with the kids. Right across the street is the Aberdeen IronBirds Single-A minor league stadium. Even if you don't have a child who is playing in a tournament, this is an awesome spot to spend a day on the weekend to watch some great youth baseball.

Absolutely amazing experience as an adult watching the kids play baseball at this facility. It is definitely all about the experience. Do it! Let them play here. The freedom the kids are allowed and the memories they make are worth it. The fields are open to everyone to play whiffle ball on when games aren't going on. Lights are turned off at 9:15. Fields are maintained very well. The mixture of turf and grass adds to the experience. Minor complaints with some maintenance and upkeep of a couple fields and grounds for spectators. Parking can be tough if you don't stay at the Marriott. Highly recommended.
