Powered by GoogleBeen taking my daughter to a program for over a year now and in the past couple months they have decided to over schedule events here. No parking. Thank god the near by businesses accommodate their pathetic planning. Have to wait over 45 minutes for the one concession stand so hopefully you dont care about seeing your event/activity. Vending machines are basically empty. All tables in the main lobby area to sit at are basically always full or trashed. Really disappointed because coming here was a stress free highlight to our families week.
Incredible facility for a small Midwestern city. This place has it all. Indoor/outdoor soccer fields, volleyball courts, two ice arenas, and conference rooms. Good concessions available, including breakfast foods and even beer. Very nice facility!
You need more Dedicated pickleball courts! There is a law suit waiting to happen here, senior discrimination you have all these activities for younger and middle aged but you only have 2 pickleball courts which 90% are the seniors playing. They have a list of 20 people that can sign up for 2 courts, yet we have come week after week and even during the weekdays NO-ONE is on the 3 extra pickleball courts! But they refuse to let the pickleball players play on them 🤦♀️ they chain up the extra nets and the courts sit empty. From a financial side point this is just stupid, every time they turn people away! Sometimes it’s myself other times it’s other people. You obviously have the need and want in the community yet they’d rather those courts sit empty. It would help if the front desk lady Kerry was a little nicer too. She is extremely rude and has outright lied and refused to let us rent out those courts for pickleball. It would be nice to see someone a little more kind and helpful there but she seems to always have a sour taste in her mouth. This rec center could be doing a lot better. Just extremely disappointed. There is a huge pickleball community out there that need a good place to play, if you dedicated more courts from 6am-12pm you’d have a great group coming here
My wife & I attended two weekend Tier I junior hockey games at MAEC (home ice for the Des Moines Buccaneers United States Hockey League team). The RecPlex has plenty of free public parking for such events & smaller recreational activities going on at the same time. The high-ceilinged entry lobby is brightly lit & uncluttered, arena staff was very friendly, and the Abel Ice Arena Rink #1 was an attractive & relatively comfortable sports venue to enjoy a hockey game (bundled up). One of the overall best municipal sports arenas we've visited across the country.
Very nice sports facility. We were there for a volleyball tournament and this place handled the large amount of teams with ease (except for concessions and parking but they know that) there were a total of 22 volleyball court set up in the facility 3 on one of the hockey rinks, 6 on the hard courts, 11 on the indoor soccer field and 2 on the sports courts. Hopefully other volley tournament directors notice this and bring more large tournaments to the area because it would be nice to have more of these size tournaments in the Metro and not have to drive 2.5-3+ hrs.
