It put my kid off learning martial arts at all. Kids were bullying him and staff, including Mr. Lister, were dismissive of my concerns. He, specifically, heavily implied that my child and I were "soft" because of me having previously worked at a Montessori school. "This ain't Montessori. We're not gonna hug him and talk about his feelings when he's upset." I had not asked for them to do anything of the sort. I just needed to be reassured that the other kids wouldn't be given tacit permission to beat my child up in the locker room (this was NOT at designated martial arts practice times, mind you). He was extremely condescending and misogynistic. I do not recommend anyone send their child there. Edited in response: my review did not say you had required children to fight each other. It said that I felt by doing *nothing* about my child being bullied, you were giving *tacit" permission for other children to beat my child up. I didn't even have the word "fight" in my review. No implication that you were requiring them to fight each other

This place is poorly ran and the director at the location on Line was very disrespectful and smug towards us. This is not a safe environment, and the staff that I dealt with were terrible. The director (i dont remember her name, but supposedly she's new) didn't remember talking to me until Mr. Lister came in. He didn't make her apologize or anything. They do not take care of your children and I heard them talking about sparring if your child gets in trouble (your child has to fight with Mr. Lister). Yet, the director didn't get "sparred". She didn't even have to apologize to the parents that she lied to and was rude to. All she said was that we could take our kids out if we wanted to. This place needs professional help and definitely some guidance!! These are the people you trust with your children! My child was having altercations with another kid and the director said she would separate them last week. She forgot all about our conversation and had them together again and they had another altercation. Her excuse was its a big facility and she has sooo many kids to watch over. Does this sound like a place that teaches your kids discipline?! I think not!! They can't even teach their director discipline and respect!!

This is so much more than just a business. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and if this becomes your village then your child, or teen is going to be much better off. I know I was. When I was in highschool they thought I was so hopeless that they tried to coach me on how to get on disability after I was done with school, but I learned two things at the MAAC that trump everything. I learned discipline, and perseverance. I was just fine after that. If your child can just get those two things, they can get everything else they need. Oh, and just as a side note (because I must sling a little mud) The MAAC doesn't need SAM insurance like other daycares, because their plan is to keep the kid's safe, not to try to save face after failing to keep the kids safe.

My son started going there in mid-April and has been going there for a few months. The staff at the Maac are amazing! My son is learning discipline and self-defense. Most importantly, he enjoys going to the Maac! I highly recommend the Maac if you want your kids to build confidence, have more discipline, and learn how to defend themselves.

The MAAC is a great place for kids. My daughter has learned self responsibility and self discipline. She is now able to defend herself with total self confidence. Everyone at the MAAC is helpful and encouraging. My daughter truly enjoys her time here. Wonderful place!! Highly recommended!!
