I came to visit the Black in Bloom exhibit where they had art from a few mirrorless hanging on display as well as several panelists discussing their inspirations surrounding art. It was a rich and informative experience and I was also able to purchase a print from an artist. Support your local artist!

Cadillac Crew at Studio 620- I’m still sitting with how powerful it was. The play tells the story of four women activists in 1963 Virginia—women who put everything on the line during the Civil Rights Movement, yet were rarely recognized, acknowledged, or elevated within the very movement they helped sustain. Their sacrifices, their courage, and the way they were pushed into the background by patriarchal leadership felt painfully familiar. What struck me most is how clearly their struggle echoes what we’re witnessing today. Here we are in 2025, and nearly 300,000 highly educated Black women have been dismissed, pushed out, or cast aside from essential careers due to annihilation of DEI—fields where their brilliance has improved the quality of life for everyone. The parallel is undeniable. These women in the play carried the movement on their backs, just as Black women continue to hold up entire industries and communities now, often without the value, respect, or protection they deserve. Cadillac Crew was more than a performance—it was a mirror. It reminded me why these stories matter and why we must continue to shine a light on the deep psychological wounds that racism inflicts and its ongoing damage to our society, past and present.- S.
