Stepping Out

This was my daughter’s (who is 5) first experience with dance and I was really hopeful she was going to love it. My mother was dropping off my daughter and I was responsible for pickup. I arrived on time but, the studios parking lot is TERRIBLE. They do not have near the amount of parking needed for this size studio. By the time I was able to park and get to the door, I was two minutes late. When I saw my daughter she looked totally panicked. After being released from dance and she didn’t see my face, she proceeded to exit the building without anyone stopping her. The only reason she didn’t make it to the road is because of another parent who stopped her. If not she may have ended up in the parking lot with tons of moving vehicles. The owner was not present to speak to on this night. I sent an email that night I am still waiting for a response 5 days later. I also followed up with a phone call and a message left at the studio. It has also not recieved a response as well. How do you allow a child in your care to leave the building? Well the entire studio is chaos. There are kids everywhere and no one speaks to you when you walk in. In fact you feel like you are out of place because not enough places to sit down so you are constantly moving out of others way. They need a check out process or at the very least someone standing at the door to verify each child is leaving with a parent.

I’m currently in college, but went to this studio a couple years ago. I came across a post from this studio the other day and was reminded, and would like to share my experience. I was bullied during my time here by alot of the older girls, whether directly or indirectly in certain scenarios it’s hard to say. There are several instances out of many small but clearly purposeful exclusionary acts by them I can remember. It had a lasting effect on my self-esteem although small, and I remember dreading going to class as I knew I was not well-liked, although I was not sure why. There are plenty of sweet instructors here and kids, but the feeling of your parents paying money you don’t really have to enjoy a sport you love only to feel like an outcast when you get into the studio is not one I would wish on anyone. I took a gap year dancing here and came back to the same environment. Additionally, I did mention this to individuals who worked here, nothing was done. I made several friends who danced here who felt the EXACT same way about how they acted towards them too, they danced alot more days than I did, and nothing was ever done about it. That's how I know it was not in my head. That’s not to say I didn’t have a good experience as I have met equally great people here and had many great experiences dancing here. I wouldn’t take back my experience as I’ve met great teachers and plenty of the girls here are so insanely sweet.

My daughter had her first ever dance class tonight in the dance with me class with Stephanie! Everyone was so nice and Stephanie interacts with all the kids so well! I was nervous because as a sahm my kids don’t get as much time around other kids as I’d like but all the parents were so nice and the way the class was set up made it less nerve wracking. So excited for next week!

We love this dance company! ❤️ My daughter has tap and ballet when younger. She’s 10 now and has taken Acro for a couple years. She has learned so much in Acro in a short period of time! I was amazed! Katelyn is wonderful! Very kind, loves what she’s doing, and truly cares about all the girls! Highly Recommend!
