Powered by GoogleMy daughter absolutely loves Stem Prep and she’s always talking about the activities and how much she loves her teachers. It’s been fun to see how curious she’s becoming and how much she’s learning. She was recently drawing pictures of “blood cells and germs” for fun at home. I also loved hearing her excitedly describe everything she learned about Martin Luther King Jr, and diverse cultural topics and holidays her teachers explored with them
While the science programming was nice (if frequently a little over the heads of the kids) we ultimately decided to take our child out of STEM Prep because it was poorly managed and we didn't feel our child was safe. There were several incidents that we were not informed of by the management and only found out about because we knew people in the neighborhood who witnessed it. In one case, a friend of ours saw the children in the after care program running around Girard avenue and the teachers not doing anything to get the children safely in line. Apparently the rope that they had used previously to hold on to had broken at some point and STEM Prep didn't replace it. When I contacted Renee, she not only had no idea this was going on, she also tried to blame the children for not behaving appropriately on the walk. In another instance, a child was left at a playground for nearly an hour after the rest of the class returned to STEM Prep (police report #24-26-051368). STEM Prep didn't notify the family, and it was only after we informed other parents that the child's parents learned of the situation. It turns out that this was the second time that a student had been left at the playground. I don't know if the parents of that child had been notified, but Renee didn't communicate with the rest of the families about either the incident or any steps that were being taken to fix it. When Renee was forced to communicate about the second incident, because there were so many parents contacting her, she placed the blame on her staff rather than her poor management of the school. In addition to the safety issues, they also kind of nickel and dime you. For example, Renee charged for the full month of June for after care when there were only two weeks of service because of the District's schedule. Then, when we included June aftercare in our summer camp plan, she charged us a second time and refused to credit us for the weeks that we'd paid for but not received care. There is also an absurd 60-day cancellation notice policy. It's a shame that the management is so poor because our daughter did enjoy it and learned some fun things, but I can't recommend it due to the bad management.
Where do I begin? My babies have been at StemPrep for the last 2yrs and it has been an amazing journey. We started with my daughter and when her brother was of age he joined her. When I chose stem I wanted them to be able to learn in a science based environment with a lot of hands on experiments and it has been nothing short of that. StemPrep will always be family to us. They have teachers who care for the children and imbed them with kind mannerisms. Both my children had never been out of the house before Stem and they were warmly welcomed into stem, thus allowing them to transition smoothly. I have seen visible progress in their vocabulary as well as general knowledge.
Renee and her staff at Stem Prep Academy made the transition from half days to full days of school for my daughter run very smooth! They are extremely friendly and have excellent communication all day long. My daughter genuinely loves it here and is excited to tell me about her day and all the new things she learned! I’m very glad we made the decision to send my 5 year old with Stem Prep Academy.
We have had our daughter at STEM Prep Academy this past year- what a great experience! She has rely come out of her shell while interacting with Ms. Renee and her peers. Her interest in art and science have greatly expanded, and she now frequently requests to do science experiments at home. I can tell that she has learned quite a bit during her time there. We are grateful for the solid foundation that has been laid as she starts on her educational journey.
