The Spartanburg Science Center on East St. John Street runs STEAM summer camps for rising K4 through rising 9th graders, taught by professional educators and using the center's exhibits and live animals. Camp topics rotate across animals, LEGO robotics, Minecraft, coding, chemistry, the solar system, pre-algebra readiness and nature walks, and are priced individually (roughly $135 for a week of the grades 5-8 chemistry camp). The center itself is a small hands-on museum with more than 23 exhibits, a live animal room of reptiles, amphibians and fish, and a collection of fossils, bones, rocks and minerals.

We had the BEST time at the Spartanburg science center today. Today was our last day of our homeschool year so I wanted to find a fun inexpensive field trip to end our year with some learning fun and the Spartanburg science center DID NOT disappoint! My kids LOVED it! And the staff was so helpful, kind and informative. Josh especially took a lot of time with my kids and shared his wealth of knowledge with them! Highly highly recommend!

The Science Center is such a gem of Spartanburg, I highly recommend you check it out! The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate, and love teaching others about all the cool things they’ve learned over the years. There are three main rooms, one with fossils and taxidermy animals many of which you can touch, the second with physics and technology exhibits and games, and the third has live animals including snakes, turtles, and an alligator! it’s not a huge space but there’s so much to see. I had a wonderful time and am so glad I stopped by. Thank you!

Google does not have accurate times of operation. Facebook has most accurate hours. Great place to visit with littles! Many activities and programs for all ages. Clean play areas and Staff is friendly.

The Spartanburg Science Center is adorable! It’s very easy to locate, the architecture of the nearby buildings and proximity to downtown is amazing. On the way into the science center there’s a few fun activities for the kids to do, along with young photographers pictures showcased on the walls. The museum prices are extremely budget friendly. It’s a small 4 room center but we spent 2 hours there! Definitely worth every penny. They have a reptilian room, fossil room, VR area, and a few other things. There is something for everyone no matter how old or young. My children really took to the employee Josh, he was super friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend stopping here if you’re nearby or looking for something to do!

Located in the top story of the Chapman Cultural Center building also housing the ballet and art studios. Caring staff, low price, small but quality. Extensive wildlife/biology room. Virtual Reality Station. Great for homeschoolers and all students. Mega blocks and live animals to keep the wee little one's attention.
