South Charleston Community Center

The South Charleston Community Center is the City of South Charleston's municipal recreation building at 601 Jefferson Road. Its youth programme is run as city sports leagues rather than as a single camp: South Charleston Eagles Youth Football & Cheer in the local AFCC league, NFL Flag Football for boys and girls in grades K-12, the SCYBL summer basketball league for 1st through 5th graders, and City of South Charleston Little League baseball and softball, which is free for South Charleston residents and runs spring and fall seasons. Registration is taken online through PlayMetrics or in person at the community center at 601 Jefferson Road. The building also holds a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium with basketball, racquetball and tennis courts, a health club and an e-sports gaming centre, and the site's Sports menu also lists summer sport camps, summer swim lessons, a youth swim team, free swim clinics and youth basketball clinics.

★★Leslie HarrisI stopped swimming here last year due to: generally cold, inconsistent water temperature, cold air outside of the pool, unsanitary changing rooms, bathrooms, and lack of cleanliness and organization within the entire pool area. Sometimes teenage lifeguards eating poolside, and private parties on weekends bringing in more food. Food and water attracts bugs, and it did. I realize it is an older building, but with some elbow grease it can be clean. I was shocked to see that Esports Gaming is now at the center! Using funds for Gaming (though likely a revenue source) instead of cleaning and organizing the building, until the long-awaited new complex is built (is it 2027? let's hope it gets done) is beyond me. Not to mention that West Virginia has the highest obesity rate in the United States. So why invite people to the Community Center for Esports, which promotes prolonged sitting, poor dietary habits, and increases the risk of obesity?
