Sherwood Soccer Club

I want to first say that most the coaches are great and we do enjoy the Sherwood Soccer club. However, while we typically have enjoyed the many years our oldest has played with the club, it wasnt until the 2025 Fall season that my child had the co-founder as her coach. He made his rules clear, if you want to play, you have to show up for practices. We followed his rules, and she was typically was one of the first players to be at practice each week. He rarely let my daughter play, and he actually broke his own rules and played many girls who never came to practice or would come late to practice. At one point during the season, he mentioned to the girls that he was so upset with many of them not coming to practice, that he was going to have them try out for his team for the next season. I thought this was odd, its recreational, you dont try out for rec teams. Well, after one game the next week, he surprised them and said "by the way, this was your try out for next season." We were confused. My child asked numerous times for feedback on her skills so she could play more, and he never had anything constructive for her. He kept telling her she was doing well and that he would "lose track of time" during games. She had never sat on the bench so much the years prior. By about our 4th game and I realized my child wasnt getting to play, I started timing her play time. If she played at all, it was less than 3 minutes each game moving forward. No coach has ever sat my child out so much. Fast forward to this Spring, and my daughter now plays for Jacksonville High School. Their last game was against Sylvan Hills. Guess who is the coach and how many girls from her Sherwood rec team are on his Sylvan Hills team? Many of them are. I now understand why he mentioned tryouts during the fall season, and I now know why he played so many girls who weren't coming to practice, they all had a connection to his greater gain. This seems as though he uses the rec team players to build skills for his high school team. This should be a conflict of interest for him to coach the Sherwood rec team. I have also reached out to the founder numerous times and he will not respond to me. If your kids are close to being in high school, and are not going to go to Sylvan hills, I recommend not letting the Sherwood Soccer Club co-founder be your kids coach. He will not play them because he has his own interests in mind. He does not care about you or your child's experience.

I’ve been told twice by the president of Sherwood soccer club, that I would hear from a coach on two different occasions. I have yet to hear back from anyone. I have emailed the vice president, I have emailed the register. I signed my child up well before registration closed. This is my 4-year-old first time playing any sport. It’s a horrible experience, for a first time player. This organization is not organized, lacks communication big time. I will not be returning to Sherwood soccer club.

The first time you visit, it can be a little confusing to find where to go (it was for me, anyway) mostly because it was further off the main road than I thought it would be and I should have turned one road past where Google told me to go. Once you get there, it's an awesome complex. Lots of sports fields, plenty of parking, and everything is well-maintained. Really thankful to the people who keep the fields in great shape and to the volunteers who coach the teams!
