The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, run by Scouting America (BSA) in Islamorada, is a high-adventure program in the Florida Keys for older youth, primarily middle- and high-school-age Scouts. Participants choose from roughly 20 ocean-based treks including liveaboard sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, coral restoration, conservation, fishing, and ocean paddling. Founded in 1980 as Scouting's first co-educational base, it serves more than 16,000 participants a year across several Keys and Caribbean locations.

★★★★★Mike BerginSea Base is one of the BSA High Adventure bases, and it is in a great location for a true Florida Keys scouting experience. A good tip for troops: bring your troop number patch for the dining hall wall. Look for your state or council patch, then add your unit number to the wall. Some troops also add a rocker for each visit, which is a cool tradition. The base also has helpful practical touches: free washers with soap, dryers, and a big ice machine to keep drinking water bottles filled. If you are earning your Triple Crown or Grand Slam, make sure to ask to take a picture with the big ship’s wheel near the administration office. They keep it in the closet off the classroom, so you may need to ask. Great base, great setting, and a memorable stop for a troop trip.

★★★★★Bobby KayeStayed here for a week while attending BSA National Camp School training. The property had great views of sunsets and the luau area was a nice touch that added to the keys vibes. They primarily run scuba programs out of this property - there’s a number of sea base properties spread out throughout the keys and the Bahamas that offer different programs and camping opportunities. There’s a location a bit further south called Camp Sawyer that offers family camping if you have children. The food Mike and his team prepares was some of the best camp food I’ve had compared to other properties. Meals were always on time, had good portions, and tasted good. They run on a 3 week schedule so no meal repeats unless you’re on staff. The luau dinner was outstanding. The trading post was well organized, had good variety, and had something for everyone. Lots of Columbia and Ouray apparel. The lady running it (I believe her name was Cheryl) mentioned that she makes an effort to have toiletries and other necessities people may have forgotten available at a normal price point which was very apparent and refreshing to see. Staff was friendly and kept the facilities clean. Note that this is private property and you need a BSA permit to enter.
