The Science and Learning Center at Coldwater sits at milepost 43 on State Highway 504 near Mount St. Helens, about ten miles west of Johnston Ridge, and is shared by the U.S. Forest Service and the Mount St. Helens Institute. The building has a wrap-around deck with interpretive panels overlooking Coldwater Lake and the volcano, a quarter-mile accessible loop trail, a commercial kitchen and indoor overnight bunk space for roughly 26 beds plus cots. It functions as a field-science base and rentable facility rather than a camp with its own open-enrollment sessions.
