This organization is awesome for kids to perform in musicals. My twins have been in many shows. They started 2 years ago and have met so many friends. I cannot say enough great things about Junior theatre. They are now working as aids there as their first job and still performing. My youngest cannot wait to turn 8 to start. A wonderful organization with such a dedicated staff and nice families. I cannot emphasize enough on what a family Junior theatre is and how they have increased our teens” confidence and love for theatre!

My child has been attending San Diego Junior Theatre on and off for the past two years, including their summer camps, and absolutely loves everything about it. The teachers are incredibly professional and dedicated, and it has gradually become one of the extracurricular activities my child looks forward to every week. This year, after starting auditions and performances, we were even more touched by how kind and genuine the kids here are. We’re so grateful for the wonderful experiences SDJT provides and look forward to seeing it continue to inspire young performers for many more decades to come.

I can't really say enough positive things about this program. My son, who is now 13, joined the program a few years ago as a student in their Summer camps. At one of his camps, one of the directors, encouraged him to audition for a play. We were skeptical at the start, but he was cast... and he hasn't turned back. We're now on show 14 (some as cast, some as crew), and the he has grown exponentially as the program has started. He has shown tremendous growth onstage and off stage with his improv, confidence, stage presence, patience, persistence, and overall joy at seeing something he's worked hard for come to life. Every show, class and camp, is an opportunity for him to explore a new side of his personality, make new friends and create core memories. Parking is hard. Classes fill up. Schedule for the rehearsals can be burdensome. All worth it in the end. I highly recommend enrolling your child here and also supporting the organization as a whole!

Most of the yelp reviews have been removed unfortunately, so posting one here. Instructors were lovely and our kids responded very well to them. Suggestions for change would be more communication throughout about what is going on (unable to watch them at this particular program). My biggest concern is safety, as the program grounds are literally swarming with homeless people (hanging out in the bathroom, etc.) The kids are using those bathrooms and coming and going through these areas and staff would be unable to manage their safety should anything happen. It's scary for me and my little one. Addendum: Appreciate the thoughtful response by SDJT. It does help to know that there are supports in place for the kiddos and that they are only using the locked restrooms. Thank you again for the reassurance.

Administrative staff lacks compassion. Our children weren't engaged in their classes (by no fault of the instructors) and despite any fine print, we asked if there was a chance for a prorated refund due to my husband losing his job. The response we received, "I am sorry your boys weren’t ‘motivated’ and that your family is having some personal issues. Unfortunately though since the classes are more than half over we are unable to offer any sort of refund." Although we didn't anticipate a reply in our favor, what we didn't foresee was such a callous and impersonal reply (we had enrolled our daughter and son). We love supporting the arts scene of San Diego but not an organization (non-profit or otherwise), that has such little disregard for their patrons.
