Sampson Basketball Academy is the Harrisonburg-founded basketball camp program of five-time NBA All-Star Ralph Sampson, begun in 1983 as the Ralph Sampson Basketball School and renamed in 2000. Camps teach triple-threat fundamentals - shooting, dribbling and passing - with Sampson himself instructing and running a Q&A session about his career, alongside a life-skills component called MAP (Motivate, Attitude, Plan Your Way to Success). The camps held at Massanutten Fitness & Rec Club are open to ages 9-16 and run as half-days, 9 a.m. to noon, in one-day ($99) or three-day ($299) formats that include a water bottle and Massanutten WaterPark vouchers; a minimum of ten campers is required or the week is cancelled. The academy also runs week-long camps at Horizons Edge in Harrisonburg at $295 per week, including a girls' camp.
