Russian Camp MN ('Igra. Unplugged') is a Russian-language immersion camp for ages 5-14 where the whole day runs in Russian: morning language warm-ups and vocabulary games, then rotations through arts and crafts, theater and role play, storytelling, treasure hunts, swimming, outdoor sports, music, and science and cooking projects. Day camp sessions run 8:30 AM check-in to 4:30 PM check-out over week-long sessions in July and August at park pavilions in Maple Grove, Plymouth and Eden Prairie, with optional before and after care; the camp also runs overnight and youth sessions. No prior Russian is required, and the camp explicitly welcomes heritage speakers, beginners, bilingual families and internationally adopted children reconnecting with the culture.

He loves the non-stop activities including swimming every day, tasty and healthy meals prepared by master chefs on-site, disco party, collecting prizes, and making friends. Like the name of the camp suggests, kids spend time away from gadgets and devices which - to some parents - is a very important differentiator. Russian immersion is a nice perk. Counselors do a great job sharing (via private FB group) daily pictures of their groups. Kiwanis seems like a perfect location with complete set of facilities (they recently got new showers/bathrooms building), beautiful natural surroundings, all within convenient driving distance from the Twin Cities. Russian Camp MN really gives a traditional summer experience that will be remembered forever.

My kids start asking me about it even before the registration starts in mid-winter - this is how much they want to come back to this camp. There is something for every child in this camp: arts, sports, dancing, swimming, canoeing, cooking, etc. Every year, the organizers introduce new ideas and projects, so that even kids who return to the camp every year are excited to experience something new. And what's more important is that the camp has a strict policy against phones or other types of technology that consume our children's attention today. However, kids don't have time to look at their phones because they're constantly engaged. Anyway, I highly recommend sending your children to the Russian Camp!
