RiverRat's, a canoe and kayak outfitter on the Lynches River near Scranton, SC, runs an adventure day camp that has kids paddling and working together on and off the water. The camp meets Monday-Thursday 9:00am-3:00pm and Friday 9:00am-noon.

Prices are very reasonable, all you have to do is show up, they provide the kayaks (single and tandem), a shuttle, paddles and life jackets. Can’t beat it for the price. We’ve only done the 5 mile so far but definitely will be trying the 10 mile before the end of this summer, then this will be part of our monthly budget. Peaceful and relaxing for a nice reset from the real world.
★★★★★Frankie LiattoOur kayaking experience on the Pee Dee River with River Rats was absolutely beautiful! I booked a kayaking excursion for my moms birthday. We took 2 tandem kayaks for the 4 of us, for 2.5 hours. The booking process was simple. The prices were super cheap. Barry, the owner had everything ready for us as soon as we pulled up. I should also note that Barry is such a nice man and kept us laughing as he drove us to the kick off location. The kayaks were comfortable and easy to use. The river itself was easy to navigate. We were blessed with a beautiful 70 degree October day. We didn’t experience any competing winds and the river current naturally pushed us down the river, so if we needed a paddling break, we could take one and still make our way in the right direction. The scenery itself is enough to come back here 100x! River Rats also offers other experiences such as camping. In addition, they have a volleyball court, games, and other attractions at the site. This is a great place for kids and adults alike! I highly recommend this place if you’re interested in a memorable kayaking experience. Thank you Barry for making my mom’s birthday extra special! We can’t wait to come back soon :D
★★★★★Brad HallI took my scout troop there for a kayak trip and two nights camping. It’s located right on the river and has a nice bathhouse, covered picnic area, beach volleyball court, and other extra little touches. The paddle down river was beautiful and the guide (owner) was great taking photos of us all during the trip. The owners were most gracious, even bringing us dry firewood after a hard rain. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. This was my second time staying at River Rats, and I will probably be back in a few years with more scouts.
★★★★★Mallory Lloydthe drive in to the property is a beautiful, country setting. parking is simple and the check in process is quick and easy. the drive over in the school bus was quick and the gentleman shared some fun facts that made it an enjoyable ride. overall this paddle was a 10/10 with just enough work put in to maneuver, mostly the first half of the trip, with plenty of places to stop along the way. second half was a bit more relaxing with a few places to veer off and explore. the owners were pleasant and helpful, we had a perfect day and will absolutely be back
