Nutzy's All-Star Camp is a three-day youth baseball camp run by the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A San Francisco Giants affiliate, at CarMax Park. Campers practise basic skills, techniques and game-like situational drills, get position-specific instruction and use of the indoor batting cages, and take a behind-the-scenes look at the ballpark; a registered nurse from Patient First is on duty each day and the camp runs rain or shine. Days run 9am to noon (check-in from 8:30am) with lunch served until 12:30 and pickup by 1pm, for ages 6-12 at $199 ($169 for each additional child). Registration includes a camp t-shirt, daily lunch, an autograph session and two tickets to the Friday home game with an on-field pregame parade.

★guy thompsonThe stadium is fantastic and the team is fun to watch. Really good atmosphere. My bone to pick is the food. Not many choices, I had a hamburger and curly fries and the hamburger was grey looking meat and had been pre-prepared. I tried a chicken sandwich after I threw out my hamburger. It was also soggy and had sat too long on a warmer. A jumbo hot was $5 and it was 4” long. Not quite jumbo. The stadium needs a pizza offering like Dominos or similar. A Chic filet or similar option. I expected the food to be much better and was really disappointed. Ya’ll gotta do better than this.

The field looks fantastic, and the seats are great. Only downside is that first base seats make you stare into the sun, and the baseball players that are in the outfield around first base cannot see too well either because of the sun. Regardless, I certainly had a fantastic time. I hope they continue to keep the old diamond and can repurpose it to a coliseum or some kind of event space.

The entire thing is a spectacle and the organization goes all in on the experience. There was ongoing entertainment, there is special promotions each game, and weekends often have fireworks! RIP to the Diamond!
